Was this the one on ebay that ended recently being bid up pretty high? It looks familiar and was posted here a day or two ago. Consensus was that it was a Henning. Enjoy!!

99% sure it's a Henning coin.
Nice pick up! Enjoy it for many years!

(By the way, the "B" in "pluribus" is the main diagnostic on the Henning coins. It is a pretty messed up "B".)

That is a 1944 Henning nickel ... congratulations on having acquired an example. Quote: the "B" in "pluribus" is the main diagnostic on the Henning coins Not sure where westernsky developed this information. There are several diagnostic to observe for Henning nickels ... the 'B' in 'PLURIBUS' has not been recognized previously for special diagnostic attention. We all struggle sometimes with Henning identification and would appreciate westernsky elaborating on the 'B' commentary ... A hole in the bottom of the 'R' in 'PLURIBUS' has been recognized as a definite indicator of a Henning counterfeit ... although it does not appear on every example as Henning used multiple reverse dies. This prior thread contains Henning identification input from several members: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...&whichpage=1David

The surfaces look like a winner. I've heard (only rumors) the B is similar on some like the '64 PLURIDUS. I've never seen one, nor do find it credible.

Excuse me ....yes, it is the "R" in "Pluribus" that is messed up, NOT the "B". All of the ones I own have the same messed up "R". My mistake.

The coin in this thread is a Henning. Since Henning claimed to have 6 different reverse dies, not all Hennings have the hole in the R. My group currently consists of 75 with the hole and 72 without the hole. So they are not uncommon.

I am just starting to look at that. This past weekend I finished up some other coin projects I had then gathered all of my Hennings that were stored in different places into one group and separated them into With Hole & Without Hole. Unfortunately weekends are the only time I have to work on this. So this coming weekend I should be able to get some work into it. Then the next weekend I am at the Memphis IPMS paper money show. Plus the end of the month I will be at the Summer Seminar. So the time spent of this project will be limited this month. I'll post info in a new thread as I find it.
