Possible new design for American Silver Eagles I like #40 & #41http://www.coinweek.com/featured-ne...gle-program/The design can be changed every 25 years, that both the obverse and reverse design can be changed, and that it would apply to all versions of the coin, bullion,proof,burnished & uncirculated coins . http://www.coinnews.net/2014/04/08/...lver-eagles/Year Mintage Issue Price Current Market Value 1986 5,393,005 $7 $33 1987 11,442,335 $9 $30 1988 5,004,646 $8 $30 1989 5,203,327 $8 $30 1990 5,840,110 $7 $30 1991 7,191,066 $6 $30 1992 5,540,068 $6 $30 1993 6,763,762 $6 $30 1994 4,227,319 $7 $33 1995 4,672,051 $7 $33 1996 3,603,386 $7 $50 1997 4,295,004 $7 $29 1998 4,847,549 $7 $29 1999 7,408,640 $7 $29 2000 9,239,132 $7 $29 2001 9,001,711 $7 $28 2002 10,539,026 $7 $28 2003 8,495,008 $7 $28 2004 8,882,754 $8 $27 2005 8,891,025 $11 $27 2006 10,676,522 $14 $26 2007 9,028,036 $16 $26 2008 20,583,000 $18 $25 2009 30,459,000 $24$25 2010 34,764,500 $24 $25 2011 40,020,000 $40 $25 2012 33,742,500 $35 $25 2013 42,675,000 $30 $25 2014 23,808,500 $25 $25*

Change the obverse to a different Classic coin design. Like the draped bust, morgan, or $10 Indian....lots of good obverse designs out there.

Although I like classic designs, I must agree with getting rid of the walking liberty. However, I'm not a fan of the Sacagawea dollar eagle or the American Gold Eagle's eagle. They look to "perfect", "modern", "artsy" (if you're understanding me). I'm much more a fan of a classic eagle, one that might be in an "unnatural" pose (holding something, with a shield, etc.), or a nice simple eagle like on the Flying Eagle cent or Saint Gaudens or Indian Quarter Eagles, etc. Today's eagles are too "natural" and "too detailed" for my liking. It might just be me. But, it appears as though the mints are going to soon be minting coins with another non-classic type eagle, and I fear that if they ever decide to update the obverse, it'll either be another non-Liberty mess, or be un-creative like the American Platinum Eagle (I mean, really, the Statue of Liberty? And one where the ears, the nose, the mouth, and the chin seem a little messed up from the actual statue, or is it just me?) I mean sure, some of their recent reverses for the American Platinum Eagle are nice, maybe a little over-detailed (like ATB Quarters), but it does prove that there are some great artists left, but the fact that they're so over-detailed I think just makes them nice as a one-year-only type deal, not really as a timeless design that could be left on coins for 50+ years and not look old and dull (take, for example, Seated Liberty coinage...featured on five different denominations at the same time, plus the Twenty Cent Piece; and I don't find ANY of them to be "old" or "uninteresting" no matter how many I have).

I am not a real big, "it's getting dated, change it " fan. And I hate all those medal reverse designs, to cartoonish. If the St Gaudin's design is getting old then way on earth would you want to resurrect a "classic" design. When Australia decided on a different design for their national bullion, they didn't bury the Koala, they supplemented it with the Kookaburra, then the Kangaroo. I would be totally on board with a second U.S. silver bullion coin of a totally new design. How cool would that be.

I'm willing to consider any design change that incorporates some classic design. I'm not a big fan of putting politicians or some iconic head-shots (e.g., the Barber coinage).

I wish they would rotate the reverse designs like the proof gold and platinum issues.
Keep the bullion the same but spice it up for the collector base at a reasonable price for the proofs since I can never afford a proof gold or platinum eagle.
Sales are strong as it is for the silver eagles but I think a rotating reverse for the proofs could take it to the next level and knock out the competition.
US MINT. ARE YOU LISTENING?

I think they should have an artist depict equality and community as opposed to Liberty on the new design. LOL

I'm definitely going to have to get me one or nine of those! Quote: American Gold Eagle's eagle. They look to "perfect", "modern", "artsy" I couldn't agree more. Quote: Change the obverse to a different Classic coin design Well... I don't know if I can agree with that. I can imagine that a new obverse would look wonderful, but it would look like a completely different coin. Edit: I think #40 looks the best and #31 and #32 look the worst. It looks too much like the Kennedy half reverse and I really don't like that one.

So if they change the design, and the denomination( from $1 to $5 ), will that raise the value of the old ASE's at all ?

I really like #23 and #24 too, but I think #41 is a better match for the obverse.

I say #16, but have the eagles talons drawn. That way it is like the view of a small mammal getting ready to be snatched up.

As far as I know they have NO plans to change the denomination. The reason some of the designs have a $5 denomination on them is because they were rejected designs for a five dollar gold commemorative. All of these designs are recycled rejected designs from other programs.

None of those stand out to me as being better than the current design. We shouldn't change the design just for the sake of something new. If a new design is desired, it should be an improvement over the old, not just something different. How about something like the ATB 5 oz coins, but in a 1oz design. That would supplement the desire for something new without throwing out one of the best looking coins in American history.
