Found this beauty tonight but I can't seem to find it on cuds-on-coins.com. What do you all think?

Wow, that is one cool Cud!

I couldn't find a match on http://cuds-on-coins.com either, however you can always send them photos of your find. They are always looking for new Cuds to add to their site, and yours appears to be an excellent one!

jllaan- the coin is a Cud. It is the result of part of the die breaking off and then the blank planchet that is struck is missing part of the design. There is so much pressure when the dies strike it pushes metal up into the part of the die that broke off. Cuds are pretty valuable.

Nice one! I think all presidents should be able to balance a Cud on there head before, during and after office. Thanks, Doug.

What makes it look like a Cud on top of another Cud?

I was wondering the same thing John. Perhaps there were sheared chips along the edges of the main break which supported a different flow rate of metal? Maybe some metal flow between the face of the die and planchet leaving metal flash that has worn smooth?

Hazardous guesses, but these were the things that came to mind.

Nice find Sudz!

I took Rollsearcher37's suggestion and sent in photos of this coin to BJ Neff. After taking a look at it, he decided to list it on cuds-on-coins.com (CU-1c-1982(LD)-19)... I am honored.

It's important to remember that cuds-on-coins is a very new reference site. It contains only a small fraction of all die breaks and will take quite some time to have the majority of Cuds listed. One should not expect to find a match for every Cud one finds at this point in time.

By the way, nice find!

Looks like the die is continuing to crumble away, making the new areas on the edge away from the rim area.

If you haven't already, I would take the time to submit it to Cuds on coins myself.

I think that you can even submit just pictures if there good enough. It can help others out to be able to reference it as well.

Worth a try and you might see yourself "published" as The submitter.

Always Nice!

If it is already there, they might want images to show the continuation of the Cud.
