I found this common date VG Walking Liberty half in a dealer's silver junk box for spot. I've been trying to learn more about telling worn silver coins from cleaned ones. I'm thinking this coin was cleaned since its so white without toning but well worn. Just wondering if I was right or whether it's just from it being worn.

I can say with 100% certainty , cleaned. It's pretty obvious with the characteristics you've outlined, but a tell-tale way on less obvious coins is the darkness that remains inside of hard to reach places. Like the "D" & "O" in DOLLAR on this coin for instance. Also, take a look at the date. Look at the color between 19 vs. the color between 37. It was easy to clean between the straight lines of the 1, not so much with the latter curvy 3.

Notice how the coin looks a little glossy from your pics. This is an automatic red flag for cleaning and one of the first things I look at when evaluating a coin. I also ask myself "does the amount of luster (shine) match how much luster I would expect to see for the grade the coin is?" Your coin is a bit too "shiny" for the grade (around a VG). I would say that it has been badly cleaned.

Concur in this case that it is cleaned coin for all the proper reasons given above.

One note of caution ...

True pocket pieces are often found in low grade with very shiny surfaces ... they are not 'cleaned' by any mechanical or chemical means ... and will certify at a top TPG who knows what to look for.

I actually said pocket piece out loud as soon as I saw the pics. I have a 1966 Kennedy half in my pocket right now that would grade AG3 MAYBE that is shinier than this coin. And it has NOT been cleaned. I honestly would say more a pocket piece than cleaned.

Sure sign of cleaning is no dirt inside letters or numbers.
