I picked up 5 Kenedy halves today, all in nicer grades. I got a 1972, 73, 74, 78, and 79. I was at a Habitat for humanity restore and I was making a purchase when I noticed a 1/2 in ht edonation jar. I said to the man at the counter that I'd be willing to buy it form him and he said I've got quite a few here in my drawer. He pulles out about a rolls worht of halves. I went through them and picked out 5 that were pretty nice. We did an even swap. I did put 2 clad quartres in the donation jar though.

Unbelievable find for me today! A 1976-S copper-clad proof with no signs of impairment from the cash register at my work!

I used cash at the Home Depot self-checkout machine yesterday and when I glanced at my change I spotted the giant mintmark above the dome on this nickel. I think this is the first time I've ever received a War Nickel in change. Cool!   |

I come home and throw all the excess change in a glass jar.
I guess I should take the time to go through and see if anything neat is in there.

Jaobler, Any quick tips on how you got the nickel shot. Great coin and even better picture. As a kid, I used to get all kinds of War Nickels in change when collecting for my paper route. I wish I had known enough to keep them back then. |

My first ever non-Canadian foreign coin from circulation. Fittingly I was returning from a local coin show when I got this in change at a drive-thru window.  |

I hand-hold my Nikon D60 camera above the coin at the closest distance I can focus using the standard lens, macro setting, manual focus, maximum standard resolution ("Fine"), and no flash. I may need several tries to get a shot with good focus. Afterwards I process the photo with Photoshop using crop, level adjust, and saturation reduction (usually my coin photos end up with too much color). I also generally need to reduce the image size to meet the 100kb image size limit for CCF. That's it! I stopped using my cheap tripod since I usually could not get acceptable focus. Go figure! |

New guy here. I was reading this thread, went and emptied the change cup on my dresser, and found a 1940 nickel. No great value monetarily I know, but the coin is hardly worn and has a nice patina highlighting both sides.

Last Friday got 4 pennies in change, a '56D and one from the '60s, 70's, and '81. Nice to have a handful of copper! Also got a '71S kennedy from a teller tray that day!

Received a nice 1969 Kennedy half in change at the local Taco Bell today. Made more on the coin than the cost of my lunch. It's like eating for free. |
