Yesterday I received what was supposed to be a 1980-s Washington quarter PCGS PR70 DCAM from a seller on ebay. Got the coin yesterday and the PCGS Label says 1980-s 25C PCGS PR70 DCAM but the coin in the holder is a 1980-s Kennedy half dollar. Obviously the seller used a generic photo and the holder doesn't look tampered with. Mechanical error on PCGS's part? I guess my question is how come this error was never caught? The label coin # checks out through PCGS as a 1980-s PR70 DCAM Quarter. Thoughts on sending it back to seller or just keep it as a novelty item. Thanks, Tom

First, welcome to the forums TAvery! :-) Second, that's quite a difference! :-) Could we see some pictures of the slab? I personally love seeing TPG errors. From there we would be able to give better advice.

By all means keep it. Errors such as this are sought after by a select few. I'm guessing it's worth more than whatever you paid for it two fold as a PR70 Half is worth more than a PR70 Quarter and the error slab itself. Nice score!

Very Nice! I have what I call a 50 cent Ike All the info is for the 76-S silver Kennedy but the coin is a 1976-S silver Ike. And I still can't beleive that the QA people at PCGS let this one out.

I almost want to start a section on The Black Cabinet for this sort of thing, just as a novelty. :-)

That's some error on PCGS. do not send it back to seller. Quote: Errors such as this are sought after by a select few you never know what they will pay for it.

PCGS will - perhaps - start a QA program or at least hire a 'proofreader'. Errors will become less frequent and your incorrectly labeled set will be worth more.

How do you know the label is wrong, maybe the label is right but the coin is wrong.

I just don't get it!!. If this was a lesser known slabber the world would fall apart with laughter and derision, but it's ok for PCGS to make a mistake.

The label is probably correct, it's just on the wrong slab. Saw this happen in the Marshall collection of conder tokens. Two tokens misidentified. Consecutive serial numbers, the The label on the first token belonged on the second one and the label on the second one belonged on the first one. They had simply switched the two labels when they were encapsulating them.
