I'm trying to figure out what coin I should collect/stack/ hoard next and hopefully be a lifetime obsession. I want a large silver coin that is commonly available at coin dealers. I think I have it narrowed down to Morgan, Peace, or Walking half dollars. I don't really care about expensive keys right now, as I'm not sure I want a mint date set as my goal. I just want some that I could put in maybe $25 in a month for fun for mostly circulated pieces. What would you guys suggest and your opinion?i think that vams on Morgan dollars could be interesting but I'm worried what I do if silver went up to crazy amounts again. I'm also afraid the walkers would lead to me wanting a date mint set.

This is a decision entirely up to you. However, I understand that your just looking to see what others here might have for ideas.
Walkers or Morgans were my first thought too. Just remember, you can collect them in any way you desire. You don't have to take the normal beaten path of collecting every year and mint of a series. Heck, if you wanted, you could collect a year set of Morgans in circulated condition.

Everybody collects Morgan's. Go with Walkers. If it's in your budget branch out into other halves especially Seated halves or even better yet Capped Bust Halves if you've got the dough.

I thinking heavily about a joint Peace and Morgan dollar collection kinda like my grandfather had. I loved how they stacked up and sound. The only thing that stops me is that I know I could possibly get three halves for every dollar. That and the half has my favorite reverse and one of my favorite obverse. The problem is that eventually I will be drawn into date collection when I want it to be more relaxed. I currently collect silver dimes by mint/date.g, and I want it to be more about individual coins and attributing them. Which makes me think Morgans. Just want something where I can read a lot and become a expert on. I do worry about possible fakes with the silver dollars. Are they common in lower grade common silver dollars?

Why not collect all three. If one is not available in the year or condition you want then you will be able to look for one of the other coins while you are there. I don't think you can go wrong with collecting any of them but the choice is up to you.

I'd say Walkers. You could do pretty well after with $25 a month. Circulated at melt. AU/BU a bit more

Capped Bust Half Dollars! Just saying Large historical silver coins that are relatively affordable for their age. They aren't too hard to find, although you may find yourself getting more selective, looking for nice original circulated coins which are not quite as plentiful and more expensive too. Although on a budget of $25 per month it will take a few months to save up.

More for me. Exactly! This may be totally off track, but have you considered maybe collecting/hoarding 40% silver Ikes? They are plentiful and much cheaper. I love the silver business Ikes. Just a thought. Other than that, I would say Morgans, of course.

You could do worse than just hoarding any American silver coin, at very close to the melt value, and do that for the rest of your life until you need the value to convert to something else.
I have acquired this sort of stuff as almost accidental collateral acquisition, as part of lots of coins from auction.
It's just an interesting form of gently self forced long term saving.

Most 3CN can be quite obtainable for under $50 and better ones even under $100.

"I thinking heavily about a joint Peace and Morgan dollar collection kinda like my grandfather had. I loved how they stacked up and sound." Until you make up your mind whether to collect or to hoard the above statement is your best course of action: No matter where the price of silver goes, the clanking of a few silver dollars will remind you of your grandfather. Priceless... A year of 12 months at $25 per month is $300. Think of it as an experiment. Some of we CFF members spend more than $300 on a single coin. There is a small but growing voice here on the CCF that values sentiment as well as commercial gain. Where is your voice? We can only give you our own biases...

What ever you do, stay away from Morgan VAMs. They are highly addictive and will certainly lead to a hoard of Morgan dollars.
