Quote: The date looks smaller than usual. I think it's just the way the picture was taken on an angle. Looks o.k. to me.

I'd want the comfort of seeing it slabbed first.

Do I see something going on around the four?
As always, I would prefer to see this in hand under a loupe.

Macro photography really distorts perspective when you shoot images on an angle. I have to assume that all spatial relationships depicted in these images are deceptively wrong. With that said, and with no in-stock knowledge of mint mark placement and look for 1914-D, I do not trust that MM at all. Too insubstantial for a circulated coin - one would expect lettering to appear to thicken with age - and too low.

I think I might have to give up on this stuff. Like SsuperDdave says, the mint mark seems really low. Yet it appears to have a hint of the telltale die crack.

Mint marks on 1914 D can appear low. Here is mine.

The mint mark location of the op coin does not appear to match the location of the die crack example.

Question: Do all authentic 1914-D cents have this die crack, or does it appear only on one die.
Long ago, I got what was claimed to be a 1914-D before certification and the www became popular, when all you could do was rely on the dealer expertise and integrity. It does have the start of the "diagnostic die crack" by Lincoln's coat, out to the rim. It also has the strange slanted L and large B in LIBERTY, as seen in the pic just above, but the mintmark position is higher (more like the pic with the long die crack, above).
