JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

Got $90.00 in CWR from a bank yesterday. Teller said they all came from one business. Eight of the rolls were just average halves, but one of the rolls yielded 6 40% halves. This is the first time this has happened to me hunting halves. I'm stoked!

6 box total over 2 days: 32.

Its been pretty slow for me for about 2 months.

Just finished two boxes and think someone is trying to get the 2010 Kennedy's in circulation;
89 from the Philadelphia
89 from the Denver Mint
Along with paying a premium for these, I thought it strange to get equal amounts from each mint.

I went thru a box this morning and found a single 1960-D Franklin and a 2000-P Kennedy that has a Proof finish on it, which shouldn't be possible since only the S mint should be a proof. Has anyone seen or heard of a 2000-P Proof?

In box 5 I found 8 40% halves but no 90%. 5 box total is 2 64's and 35 40%. Not too bad. Now, I have to get rid of the clad - ugh.

Skunkeroo through two boxes. What are you all doing with your NIFC finds? We're starting to throw the bad ones back but we're continuing to roll the BU ones per date/mm that we don't want for the albums (what the heck?).

Americanamafia - gee, I wish! I got a bag $201-filled from a small bank about three years ago and it was 1/3 silver. The bank manager was so glad to get rid of it he told me, "Just give me $200." I couldn't believe it. We got a $1000 bag once after that but I knew the bank detective and that's how we got it. I can't tell you what bank because I can't compromise him. I hope you understand.

As an aside, it's my understanding these are typically $1000 bags (2000 halves, if they count them right). They never count them right, however (or, they may, but, that's just once in a blue moon), and, that's why their cash reserve services audits the bags. Usually, the bags come up short, not over. That's, of course, for the foreign coin and smaller-denomination U.S. coin that slips by the rejector magnets and gets into there counted as halves.

I'd love to get another one of these $1000 bags. My friend is a private detective, now, and isn't in banking, anymore. I just don't know the right approach, when one doesn't have any "inside connections." I'm working on it, though, as these boxes, lately, have been ship(sp?)!

EDIT - I just want to add, I know of others (not forum members) who get the $1000 bags, too. They tell me you want to go straight to the branch manager on the request, forget about the tellers, as this is a bank policy decision. If they comply, they'll typically sticker the bag with your name and phone number, and call and offer it to you, once it fills. At least, that's how I got it. You have to take the bag "unaudited" (i.e., all sales are final). Hope this helps...
