Well the last 3 boxes of the 10 box batch were pretty lack luster.
Box 8 - 2 NIFC, 1 40%
Box 9 - nothing
Box 10 - 1 NIFC

4 more boxes tomorrow and hopes are for better luck with them.

Be safe

I had a decent find at a bank yesterday. Asked the tellers for loose halves. From 8 dollars worth, I scored a 1954P Franklin. I chatted up the teller a little, and she said they had $700 worth in the vault. A large portion of it was someone's dump. However, 11 of the rolls yielded 22 40%'s.

Interesting discussion on here about changing banks when not having good luck. I am thinking of doing so. Dunbar has the String and Son rolls in my area, but I dump my old halves at a Dunbar bank. So, I am not sure I want to use Dunbar for fear of getting my dumped coins back. Will try my luck for a few more weeks with boxes then re-evaluate.

Picked up $130 in customer wrapped from various branches today and yielded just 1 40% and many coins from one branch were heavily corroded, like they had been in a flood! Very few BU keepers.

Just finished 4 more boxes today and got the folowing:
Box 1 - 1 proof, 2 64, 19 40% (first 1970!)
Box 2 - 2 NIFC, 2 proof,
Box 3 - Nada!
Box 4 - 3 40%

I told the bank fellow about the last load being short 2 coins on 2 rolls and 1 coin short on 2 rolls and he said this would be the last reimbursement for shortages. He said if the boxes are already open and taped shut I could have them as is or they would send them back. Whatever... I had saved the fellows butt a week ago when I was picking up 4 boxes and he started walking out to my car with 5 boxes. I quietly told him "as much as I could really use the money, this isn't the way to get it. You are giving me 1 box too many". He was effusively thankful at my telling him, but I was surprised he mentioned it to his co-worker...

Anyway, the next batch will be in on Monday, another 10 boxes. If I don't get skunked on too many boxes I will keep it up with 10 on mondays and 4 on wednesdays. That is about all I can do in a week...

Be safe and happy turkey day to all.

Patty,

Just curious, which bank is allowing you to buy 10 boxes? Most of my accounts are at BofA and they have kindly ordered me 1 box a week for the last couple of weeks. The branch manager has even called me when they have arrived. However, both have been skunk boxes! There is a Chase by me but they are just a holes b/c I don't have an account. I am opening an account with them on Friday when the new promotion kicks in and they will start ordering me a box a week. I was able to get 6 rolls (machine rolled) from them and they had 3-40% which is why I want Chase to order me a box. I am getting a $1000 bag from a regional bank next week...that will be my first order from them.

Trust me, they are a holes even if you DO have an account with them (I do). Got to be, far and away, the WORST bank in the USA. They are arrogant, unprofessional and treat you like you are a BOTHER to them and they are doing YOU a favor for having an account with them. Wait a minute---I am trusting you to take care of my money, which you are loaning out at high interest rates, and paying me .002% interest? If it wouldn't be for the convienience of thousands of branches, I would close every account I have with them. And I have had an account there for over 40 years, too---long before JP Morgan bought them. Before they were JP Morgan/Chase, they were one of the BEST banks in terms of customer service. I wouldn't bother with them for boxes---they WILL charge you to order boxes. As a matter of fact, they are going to try and charge you SOMETHING for EVERYTHING, even just for walking through their door. Would make a great dump bank though, if they don't charge you for that too. I use a different dump bank because of convienience.

Sorry for the rant, can you tell I HATE Chase? But, YMMV. Happy Thanksgiving!

ferdyboy,

i kinda of agree with you having had an account with chase before JP; service has taken a turn for the worst. however, they have yet to charge me for boxes out here. every other bank, BofA, wellsfargo, have started to charge for dump/and pickup of boxes, all boxes, not just halfs.. and they even made it clear " we are charging those coin collectors who dump all them coins" kinda frustrating..

i have recently not ordered boxes in a long time, for one, money issues prohibit me from taking that much out at once. and they other is I just feel there is so much competition its not worth it anymore. everytime I go into a bank and just ask for pennies, I get an elaborate story of how some young man's dad died and he brought in Morgan dollars, walking liberties and rolls of wheats and how the teller tells me that she bought them up for herself - knowing that I collect coins myself, kinda insulting and depressing, which makes this roll hunting thing kinda lackluster for me. when I get some more cash freed up I will try and start hunting again. best of luck to all , you to patty.. happy thanksgiving! praise God and be thankful for everything you have!

Ferdy/SD:

I went to a Chase on the way to my usual lunch place and asked if they had more half dollars. The tellers said no and I asked if I could have a box of nickels. They asked for my account and I said I didn't have one. You should have seen their jaws drop...like how dare I ask for something and not be an account holder. You should see the comments on the banking sites like bankaholic. "Friends don't let friends bank at Chase." Anyway, I spoke with the branch manager at the location by my house b/c I had asked the teller to order me boxes. There is a $100 promotion starting tomorrow and all I have to do is 1 "direct deposit" each month. A direct deposit is simply an ACH transfer. I have accounts with ING Direct and WT Direct that you can setup ACH transfers very easily. Matter of fact, you can set them up that they will automatically transfer money at the desired specified period of time. LOL! Ok Chase bank...I will open an account, take your $100, and your boxes of half dollars. And, if the closest branch by me stops ordering them, I will go to another. I think there are 6 branches within 3 miles of me! Oh and the Chase bank branch that was shocked I didn't have an account...I am thinking about depositing a $500 box of halves!!

Russ,

Open an account with them at your own peril. I wouldn't trust them that will keep their word about ANYTHING, promotions or not. Don't be surprised if they double cross you with the promotion AND ordering boxes---I had them tell me once (AND THE LAST) that "We won't charge you to order boxes", only to have a $5 charge appear on my statement, PER BOX. I have also had mysterious unauthorized service charges appear on my statements as well. When you call their "800" customer service numbers to try to complain (or even get more information) about the charges and straighten it out, you WILL be connected to some barely-English speaking unintelligable person, or, just as bad, someone who hasn't a clue or gives a hoot either. Then you'll find yourself having to haul yourself down to a branch to deal with some other clueless and rude idiot, that will usually DEFEND Chase, tell you that the charges are legitimate, and not listen to your side of the story. Their arrogance is beyond reproach. And don't forget that if you give someone electronic access to your account for ACH transactions, you are giving that company/person access to also debit your account as well---and Chase won't defend an unauthorized transaction in your favor, PERIOD. FAIR WARNING, BEWARE OF CHASE!

Ferdy,

Thanks for the heads up. I have already spoken with the branch manager and I know they are not going to charge me for the boxes. If for some reason charges start showing up on my account, I will march into the branch, get them to credit my account and then I will close it. It's really of no loss to me b/c my main bank is BofA and I will not be changing that. However, BofA half boxes are skunks! :(
