WOW! I finally hit the jackpot. I found a teller with 6 rolls of halves and bought 2. I opened them and found 4 40% and a 64! These are true old, unsearched rolls. He also had 9 Ikes. However, I can't go back today because I have to work.

I stopped by a local Citibank where I've found a few silver halves previously. I asked if they had any halves and one teller said "I do!". She pulled out this $20 roll:

JFK-Half-Dollar-Roll-Hunters:-Silver,-Proofs-And-Other-Finds

It had an address stamp on it plus "Keep", "Save", and "Do Not Open" written in red pen. I ignored the last instruction and opened it:

JFK-Half-Dollar-Roll-Hunters:-Silver,-Proofs-And-Other-Finds

The roll contained 2 Walkers (1936 and 1945-S), 14 Franklins, and 23 1964-P and 1964-D Kennedys. Many of the Kennedy halves are BU; The Franklins grade Fine to AU and the Walkers are cleaned Fine to VF.

You math majors may notice the roll was one coin short. I thought about demanding my money back but maybe I'll cut the bank a little slack this time!

Nice score!

I just picked up $330 in customer wrapped on Friday but it was someone's dump. But even so, I've been working on a roll set of JFK halves for many years now, and I still have some dates I need to complete. The one giving me the hardest trouble to find has been the 1988-P. This $330 lot had 4 BU 1988-P which helped immensely. I also scored a 1990-P, to complete that roll. So even in junk you can find treasure!

To complete my roll set from 1964-2001, I need just 1 1985-P and 1 1988P and of course many 1987-P and 1987-D (issued only in Mint sets). I do have the 70-D roll already.

Dang - someone turned in grandpa's 1/2 dollars or such. Think I'd of asked for any and all rolls of coins with that type of wrapper. Maybe could of found older dimes, quarters, etc. That was a major score.

When you ask for halves and they give you these dark cardboard collor wraped most of the time is a score ! The only time I got old wraper rolls it was 3 solid BU bicentenial , when saw the teller coming back from the main valt with it in her hands I started shake and tallking to myself ... Finaly !... Now is my turn ... Finaly!... Then it end up to be bicentenials someone just didnt feel hold on to it anymore !
Congratulations !

First off you should know that I am NOT a camp counselor and not old enough to be (16) and $3 is what a dealer would have paid anyway. Also I know this kid, he would have eventually spent it at the snack bar there and it would have been grabbed by someone else or cashed in.
Thats all I have and I hope no one feels I'm evil (Ricardo!)

BTW AWESOME score Jaobler! That's over $275 in silver value!!

BTW - moderator - if this is not the proper way to mention another website, please let me know how - I want to obey the rules . I know several posts mention APMEX so I guessed this was the best way to make this info available concerning the coin calculator.
Established members are allowed to post links to other websites. If you post a link, but all or part of it changes to "Not Allowed - Auto-Removed" then just leave it at that. Do not question why, because there are a multitude of reasons why certain links are not allowed.

Since there are several dozen "melt calculators" out there, I see no reason to forbid issuing a comment to "Google 'melt calculator'" to help people out.

Does anyone ever get flak from their dump bank? If so, how do you handle it; if not, how do you keep on good terms with them. I have a minimal account at my dump bank just to dump leftovers, beginning to notice some annoynace (sp incorrect, I know) from the tellers.

Forgot to say that although some people hate doing this, I deposit the dumps occasionally so it does look like I'm using them as a real bank. Just withdraw from the ATM later or even as you walk out of the branch.
