If it is truly unsearched then it had to of at least been sealed within the last couple of years at the most because if not then all the coins in it would be in better condition, That is what irritates me about these things!

Also I wonder why anyone would store coins like that, he said we wouldn't believe how they were found and then he just says it anyway...that they were found in a barn.

Not an auction for a collector but rather one for an investor that like's to gamble.

Wow dave! Interesting! If you can get the jar under what the guy paid for them that would be funny.

That sure is some nice clean wax on the jar. A bunch of wax sitting in an old barn for many years would look pretty dirty. I'll bet that the grass seed is still good. Add some water and I bet it will grow. Perhaps this is 'Liberty' the Chia Pet Coin Jar

Well he says he bought the jars in a local auction, but likely they contained no coins, so that would be true.
He says the jars are unopened, so in current condition that is true.

The listing may be deceptive, but I see no statements that are blatantly false.

There's Gold in that Jar. A very nice gimmick display by the seller. I would love to know how many of the coins in the jar are fake, and the seller does not offer any refunds. I would guess the winning bidder odds of making a score are about the same as winning the lottery.

I think the money would be better spent buying lottery tickets.

As we move on toward summer the smell of popcorn and ozone fill the air. It's carnival time!

The jar is small. There are very few coins in this one compared to previous jarring offers.

The wax is fresh. So are the seeds.

A smart investor would be playing "dime in a dish" instead getting into this jar game. Dime in a dish is a game of skill.

I've been rereading Harold Smith's book on Reno before making a trip there. His aphorisms apply to slot machines, carny midway games, and this jar. "Never gamble with money you can't afford to lose." "No one wins all the time."

Don't forget what P.T. Barnum said...."There's a sucker born every minute". Several of said "suckers" are bidding on this auction and looking at the bid history of these bidders, they cannot resist these type of rip-off auctions.

I thought about doing this but I can't bring myself to do it. It's like damaging the hobby.

What is the winning bid going to be? My guess $979.00

If everything melted and ran into a pool at the bottom of the jar, it looks like about $300 worth of precious metal. Considering the low grade of the coins (but allowing the seller the benefit of the doubt on authenticity), that would be my top bid.

Smith used to post his aphorisms on the walls of his club. They were probably as effective in discouraging gamblers as seeing "the wages of sin is death" on a tree just before you hit it. Harold's Club is now an empty plaza in downtown Reno. Another Western ghost.
