I have the option to buy 2 sets of American Eagles NCG MS69. I believe they go to 2014 and include one for every year. The price asked is $850 per set, is that a good price? I've never gotten into the AE's so I don't know what the price range would be. Thanks for your help.

Am I correct to assume that you're talking about a full set of bullion ASE's given that it's one per year?

Hi. A quick search on e-bay shows a couple NGC MS 69 sets in the large NGC box selling for $1410.00, I believe it was a set of 30. Sounds like a good price.

The best price is what ever you want to pay for them. You have to ask yourself, what coin or item would I rather want than this book of american silver eagles. How about a proof Shield nickel, or maybe two. On APMEX the full set up to 2015 and raw goes above 1000 dollars, so I think you have a good deal lined up. You are paying about 28 dollars a coin.

IMO it is a very good price if you are in the market for them.

That is a great price for these. NGC MS 69 Brown labels are a "classic" collection in ASE's. My 13 yr old and I have been putting this collection together for a couple of years now. At an average of $29 per coin, that is a steal. The 1986 and 1996 can go for $60-$80 alone.

The only reason I was in the market for them was if the price was right. I only own 2 currently but they aren't slabbed. The price was right for them when I bought them. Based on all the help I've received here, and I thank you all very much, I think I will buy them. I'll try to get some pics loaded of them when I get them too.

Is this set being sold by a dealer?
If you have any local coin shops in your area, give them a call to see what they would give you for them. Understand in this hobby, most times you will pay more than you can sell the same coin for. But asking a dealer what they would pay for the same coins, will give you a starting point.
If I had to guess a dealer would pay around $500 for this 1986 through 2014 NGC MS/69 Silver Eagle set. (29 coins)
FYI - 29 raw silver Eagles would cost you about $580
After knowing that, you could make the decision if owning the slabbed Eagles is worth the extra cost. As others have posted, these sets do sell for more at other places. So this is not a bad price ... if you are really liking the set.

It is from an ex-dealer. He is selling off his stuff that was left from the shop. He closed 2-3 months ago.

If it was me, and I wanted them, I would make him a offer and be ready to buy if he accepts the offers.
I would offer around $725 to $750.
I am not saying $850 is a bad price, it is a good price.
But at that price, I would be looking at holding them a long time ... or until silver went higher.
I feel in the future there will be more dates that will start having more of a premium.

Sounds like a decent price but make sure what you get.

$850 is a very fair price... Sometimes haggling over a good deal isn't the best idea...

Decent deal if you want to buy it. Lots of people buy bullion coins by date. The premium is worth it for an instant graded collection.

That is a very good deal. I have to agree with jdmern on this one. I would not haggle on a deal that is already good.

Here is the update on purchasing the set. I had the chance to sit down and look at them and in my opinion there were only 2 or 3 that should have been graded MS69. Most of the coins in the set had a milky appearance that took away from the eye appeal. Also, there were many that had marks on them, scratches, bag marks, rub marks from contact with other coins, etc. I passed on them due to all the problems I saw. I may over judge or grade, but I was under the impression that an MS69 should be practically flawless? He had some PR70 ASE's that also had some marks on them. I didn't purchase them either. I was able to pick up one each 2001 W & 2007 W ASE's for $40 a piece which I was happy with, they were perfect as far as I was concerned. Thank you all for your input and sorry I wasn't able to post any pictures of what could have been a very collectible set.

Quote: I may over judge or grade, but I was under the impression that an MS69 should be practically flawless? You are correct. Smart move passing on the set. In the end your opinion is the only one that matters.
