I really hope they catch this thug and bring him (or them) to justice!
I wish people would realize that there is more value in a human life than any amount of gold or silver.

How very, very sad. Another of the many meaningless killings so rampant nowadays. The question we always ask is "why?" Could it be that if we stop training our kids life is sacred, people like Mr. Brockman pay the price? *** Political commentary removed to avoid derailing topic ***...and this kind of senseless killing being common nowadays surprises us becauuuuse? Do I wonder why this type of crime was so rare in the days my grandfather and father were growing up in a society where all little boys were obsessed with playing cowboy and always toting their trusty capgun (shock - even in public!!)? Nope. My thoughts and prayers to the family of Mr. Brockman. They certainly deserve better than this. I just hope it won't be another case of they catch the criminal, slap his wrist, parole him, and let him do it all over again.

This terrible tragedy is just an example of how rampart crime is getting to be. My husband and I,but mostly him have collected coins and currency since 1955. We have been to coin shows many times in Chattanooga,TN, Dalton Ga,local shows where we live,Oklahoma ,Colorado, and Cheyenne. It is possible we met MR. Brockman at the Cheyenne show,I don't recall. In all the years we traveled ,we never had any trouble and never carried a gun, which was stupid on our part, but those were different times . (still no excuse) . We are no longer set up at coin shows very often, but if and when we do it will be a different story. Our heartfelt sympathies and prayers go out to Mr. Brockman's family now and always . This is so heart wrenching .

These cases makes me think a lot about how it all happened. That ring was maybe dropped during the crime.
I wonder if that well worn class ring was in the possession of the murderer. 1999 seems too early for the shop owner. I would say it was the murderer but that put him in his mid thirties instead of twenties maybe a brothers ring or just one he had stolen.
He could had been a drug user or something hoping to get some cash out of it. It's either crudely made or well worn. It could had been just plated and the store owner wouldn't buy it. Then he got mad and lost his temper then deciding to rob the store to pay for his fix as a after thought.

My high school ring was stolen the year after I graduated (twelve years before this, just in case you are wondering). I used to get shivers thinking the thief may leave it somewhere else they did something illegal.

Update from NCIC.... Quote: Cheyenne, Wyoming Detectives are currently working several leads in this case. Based upon the timeline of events the suspect was in the shop for only a few minutes and took only a small amount of coins. It is believed that in addition to some raw and slabbed dollars missing the suspect also took proof sets dated 1936,1937,1938 and 1950. A more detailed inventory list is being compiled at the present time. To facilitate the investigation, we are looking for anyone who had been in contact with Dwight Brockman, the owner of The Coin Shop, days prior to or on the day of the offense. If anyone has any information please contact: Doug Davis 817-723-7231 Doug@numismaticcrimes.org
