Even though the crime was thwarted, let this be a lesson to bolt your safe down! http://kxan.com/2016/01/28/three-ar...-safe-theft/Also, the crooks were not very bright if they thought they could shoehorn the safe into the backseat of that car... then again, who ever said crooks were bright?

See that's why I don't like gun safes for valuables other than long rifles and shotguns; too light. IMO for valuables a safe half the size but at a gross empty weight of around half a ton is much better
And did you guys notice the car jack stand under the safe. Too funny

And that, my friends is why you should pay attention in geometry and physics in school.
If they had brought the safe level and tipped it back about 10 degrees it would have fit.
And then they would have learned the NEXT lesson, about what happens when the bottom of the car scrapes along the road.

Quote: See that's why I don't like gun safes for valuables other than long rifles and shotguns; too light. Particularly those sporting goods big-box store safes. Even a 1,000 pound safe can be wrangled with enough gorillas and a heavy duty dolly, so best bet is always to bolt your safe down. Quote: And did you guys notice the car jack stand under the safe. the key here was, that the guy had a internet enabled camera and set the it up to alarm on motion.
I have one of these. 80.00 is a cheap investment to keep an eye on your stuff.

I have a similar setup. Usually it just alarms about my dog, but it's worth it!

Quote: Even a 1,000 pound safe can be wrangled with enough gorillas and a heavy duty dolly My brother and I were carpeting a lawyers office. He laughed and said to us "I don't know what you'r going to do about that safe in my office." A few minutes later he was shocked to see his safe being rolled down the hallway on a heavy cart. If you have the equipment it isn't that difficult.

Quote: If you have the equipment it isn't that difficult. True... However, most petty thieves are not carrying around dollies and walking out with 1,000 pound safes... They are looking for easy pickings...

Yep, that's why a good security system is just that... a system with many components working in conjunction to make your stash less noticeable/inviting.
Big Safe, bolted down Security System with exterior signage Visible exterior cameras Exterior lighting on motion-activate Cameras inside Menacing dog
etc.
