Too bad about the weather. At least you found a nice silver coin. Considering its age, I think the black spots are okay. At least you found something you didn't already have in your collection.

Silver is silver. And too bad about the weather. Here in Norway we had a calm, sunny and almost warm Sunday. But no Sunday market...

It was modern at the time. Just look at some of the portraits on coins from the same era. Some are barely recognizable as such.

Last week got crazy with the gold, but that is a one-in-a-thousand chance to happen.

We reset the counter. 999 to go. Doing the calculations and planning the trip to Stockholm now. It seems that I'll be there halfway December for my new job anyway...

Seems like I've sold you on it. Coin tourism

Today seemed like nothing (again) before I made a more quantitative purchase. Can't leave empty handed

Since it's a lot, I can't fit everything into one picture.

10 Rappen, Switzerland 1981
½ Frank, Switzerland 1980
10 Pfennig, West Germany 1979-F
5 Schilling, Austria 1976

1 Yuan, China 1994 (x2) & 2004
100 Yen, Japan (Heisei 17)

5 Kroner, Denmark 1976
1 Krona, Sweden 1968 (x2, first of which silver)

My-Sunday-Market-Finds
31 old 1 kr coins, 24x 1969

My-Sunday-Market-Finds
Various demonetized European coinage, mostly Swedish Öre

After some negotiation I got it for 30 kr. Seemed like what it was worth when I bought it, but what's good about these lots is that usually there's more than you think.

Wow! That will keep you busy for a while.

I love looking through piles of old coins. It's just plain fun for me. Enjoy!

Not with the prices you tend to pay over there. 30 SEK is a great price! And indeed, there's a lot of interesting stuff. I'm not surprised that you can buy piles of old kroner coins now for about nothing at all...

I was in Sweden this weekend to do my duty as Norwegian (buying cheap food of better quality than we have at home_ one of the benefits you have of being in the EU). Only bank card terminals and one dusty ATM to be found there. And the cashiers look at me like I've come from the stone age and as if my dinosaur is waiting outside if I pay with cash... I have all the new coins now, though, and all in uncirculated condition!

Good weather today, so today was a day with plenty of people around.

A new batch had arrived and naturally I picked up a bunch.

My-Sunday-Market-Finds
My-Sunday-Market-Finds
5 Cents, Singapore 2013 (x3)
10 Öre, Sweden 1958
25 Öre, Sweden 1939
6 Pence, UK 1926
5 Rial, Iran (1323)

½ Frank, Switzerland 1968 & 1984
50 Pfennig, Germany 1981-D & 1993-J
1 Mark, Germany 1955-J & 1983-G
50 Ĝre, Norway 1967

50 Pence, UK 1997
1 Pound, UK 1984
10 Yuan, Taiwan (95)
20 Francs, France 1994 (that's right, TRImetallic)
2 Franken, Switzerland 1981
5 Dirham, Morocco 1980

100 Drachmes, Greece 1992
2 Kronor, Sweden 1969
1 Pound, Ireland 1996
A 1/6 Öre SM 1666 restrike for some event in 1975
And a royal palace medal

For 50 SEK a fun and profitable bunch to come home with.

Now, the irony is that I've just got the Singaporean 5c in trade, and now suddently plenty appear just like that. I even left two behind. You just never know what you'll find...

I'm also happy to finally have the Iranian silver - I've got plenty of the following coins in that series but never the silver piece

Also in here is a bit of a fun token/restrike of a 1666 Swedish 1/6 Öre SM. It even has the correct approximate diameter for the type. No idea about the event it was issued for or the correlation with that coin, but since I've got a few of these real coins I thought it'd be fun to have this one aswell.

Fact of the matter is that I saw a bunch of them today, but honestly I don't see the value in these. Apart from the rarities/varieties within the series, I don't see anything but scrap value in these now that they've been completely demonetized. Instead, I only see them accumliating in my junk section just like all other demonetized currency, coming in with bulk lots like the one last week. I wish they could be more valuable but they're not. Perhaps it's good to get some for future trades and swaps and some nice (almost) uncirculated pieces to keep but that's about it.

I just want to point out that 2 kr coins still remain collectible, even the coppernickel pieces, but that probably has something to do with them being disused but still usable for about 45 years.
Rest in Peace

Nice pick ups. I have never seen a trimetallic coin before so that's an interesting find. You also found some nice old coins.

Glad you had nice weather. I hope it continues for a while longer.

I like this thread better than the Sunday Newspaper.
Favorite this week is the 1 Pound, Ireland 1996 with the Elk stag.

Nice bunch again!

Have you checked if your Iranian 5 Rial has had a die clash? I have a few Iranian coins, and I do believe this type as well, with clashed dies.

Fully agreed!

Don't expect the kronor coins to go anywhere soon! Good to have a few UNC coins. I can still, 15 years later, buy old French, Dutch and other demonetized pre-Euro coins by the kilogram at the cheap here (less than $5 per kilogram). These fully unsearched lots have, miraculously, all their German and Austrian coins removed though... including UNC coins.

Super finds again I always check your post on Monday mornings first thing I look at. I would have to say you have gotten me back into world coins again. I mainly collect year runs of all WW for birth years for my wife, son, grandkids and myself.

I agree with Buddy - I really like the tri-metallic. Some nice finds at some good prices for sure.

What is a newspaper?

That's the thing where, on Sunday, the most valuable, pertinent, and educational part comes in full color and has things labeled on it like "Peanuts by Charles Schultz."

Of course this valuable section is typically wrapped inside many, many layers of what typically is used as bird cage lining. The lining is placed there for the birds amusement and for soliciting their feedback (that was an unintended pun - but I liked it so much I left it).
