Hello X2an, I must admit that this post is the most interesting one on Coin Community Family!! I have one question for you: what is a tissue test? As to 2 GBP coins that are beat up, the shops in the UK would not take them as they might be counterfeit---better be safe than be sorry as they say. You could get them exchanged at the bank if they are willing to take up on themselves to send the coins to the Royal Mint---they will determine whether they are genuine or not. The bank do not like to take a risk especially when you do not have an account with them. As to the round 1 GBP coins, they are no longer legal tender since 15th October 2017. You would need a bank account to deposit these coins in order to get your money back. If you have a British friend or friend who lives in the UK, ask them nicely if they would be willing to help you out. Otherwise, you will be stuck with the coins that you cannot use. I had some round pound coins. I posted them back to my relative in the UK to have them exchanged for new pound coins. At the same time, my uncle was happy to get me some new polymer notes they were coming out with. I love your wonderful find of gold 5 kronor coin!! That reminded me of one time I was browsing through the junk bin and spotted a lovely silver Mercury dime. I was pleased with my finding. So when I was done with my browsing, I took several coins with me to the counter. I presented them to the coin shop owner. He priced each coin until he saw the dime. His facial expression suddenly changed and he looked up to me as if I am trying to sneak it in or cheat him. I assured him that I was not doing anything and it was in the bin. He said I cannot have it for cheap and it was a mistake it is in the bin. My opinion of him as a coin dealer changed on that day. The dime was not in a great condition. Oh, well...I went home without that dime but I was pleased with other coins as I made a little profit like you did with your findings here. May you always have a good luck!! :)

Yet another Sunday gone and yet the finds keep coming (sometimes) Today brought a profitable currency batch. Everything interesting can mostly be found on one side today. 1 Penny, UK 1993 10 Kroner, Norway 1988 €2.72, Mostly Italian but also two German and one Austrian piece $6.31, including 50c 1980-D & 1999-P and three Sacagawea dollars 2000-P, one of which has seen better days. This cost 50 kr, but I did also end up finding an actually quite nice looking 10 kr with its shiny edge showing in the mud between some cobblestones. The square seems to be quite the hotspot for any coin. Quote: As to the round 1 GBP coins, they are no longer legal tender since 15th October 2017 I knew these were to be demonetized soon, but not this soon. For some reason I thought they would co-circulate for a year exactly and therefore be demonetized in March 2018. That explains the flat-out refusal of these at one exchange place with me confidently thinking I caught the teller in a lie. Made me a fool that day I still managed to sell them for a ripoff rate at another place that had obviously not got the memo (still thinking they weren't demonetized), so I didn't lose anything on these (the rate was 50% that of their buying rate, i.e. less than 50% of their now only banked value, effectively 5:50 kr apiece). Let's see what next week brings

@ jbuck, thanks for the link on a tissue test! I learnt something new today. I did not know it is possible to test that way! Appreciate it very much!! @X2an, yes---that is that soon for round 1 GBP coins. If I have known about your post much earlier, I would be very happy to help you out with 1 GBP coins. Since my uncle is in banking, it should be relatively no problem for me to exchange them for you. :) My apologies! You did very well with your latest findings! Pleased for you!

I think everyone viewing is going to enjoy today's catch. 1 Mark, Germany 1969-J, 1973-F & 1985-D 100 Francs, West Africa 1969 (x2) 1 Dollar, Cook Islands 1987 2 Dollars, Cook Islands 1987 That's right. A triangular coin, and it's still in use! Normally when you think about coins they're supposed to be round or round-esque. Not even close here. 30 kr for this entire grab. Now, better yet, I wonder if not these two Cook Island coins are proof coins. They both have mirrored surfaces and very square edges, along with being quite shiny (although they did see PVC damage, I've removed the residue here but some damage has been done). Quote:What years were the Jefferson nickels? Honestly, I didn't look too closely I saw one was 1964 but that was the oldest one. Common dates I assume.

Very nice pick-ups! Love that triangular coin! The West African coins are pretty interesting, too.
Good day -- lots of good finds.

A couple of those look like they are from Area 51 I always thought Tangaroa on the Cook Island dollar looked like Hollywood's depiction of aliens. But what is that design on the 100 Francs? I looked online and could not find it. It looks like a very skinny face with fish fins sticking up out of either side of its head, a serpentine fish tail emerging from the top, and some sort of cilia on its very skinny neck.
