Just another reminder for everyone ... or maybe just me. Back up your computer files. Last week my new puppy/dog decided my power cable would be good to chew on. He must have got it unplug first .... he is still alive. But not before the laptop took some sort of power hit, the screen is now not working. After a few days I did recover 3400+ coin pictures. Took another few days to set up on a older computer .. for now. This ever happen to any of you

I have a computer technician that achieves about the same thing for $200, and I don't have to let him out twice a day. And yes, he deletes the coin pictures.

The last couple dogs I got were grown, when we got then.
I had forgotten the bad things puppies do.

I had a cat that chewed cords, but never thought she'd chew through, until I walked into the living room one day, saw her in the act, then saw her jump back very scared ... she didn't chew cords any more (and she lived to just over 20 years old too). Cute puppy!

Beautiful puppy!
Check inside his mouth to see if he has burns on his gums. There should be a ground wire with the other wires so he may not have sustained any injury.
Had a very similar thing happen to me once -- several years ago. My cat went nuts over the power cord to my HP laptop. He never ate through it because I never left him alone with it. (He and his brother had already broken 3 lamps!)
One day the screen went. So -- here's what we (my husband the engineer and I) think happened to my laptop.
All power supplies whine and make noises that animals don't like. The HP screen was about to go and was drawing power at faster intervals -- greater oscillation = more irritating noise. My cat was warning me that something was wrong but I didn't heed his warning and the screen died.
Don't blame puppy. I think it's likely that your screen was about to go.
In case anyone is wondering -- the wiring on the broken lamps was fine. The lamps got knocked over because various moths and house flies landed on the lampshades. Easy targets for a bored cat.

@buddy Interesting theory - and very likely the case. I would not have thought of this.
@GR58 Hope you get everything back.
I will mention, as I did on another thread. Mac OS has an automatic backup system built in called Time Machine. It is fully customizeable and makes regular backups at the intervals you set. At anytime you can restore everything or just one file.
I don't have to remember to do anything and its no effort. There likely is something like this for other computer platforms.

Those dogs definitely look guilty I had mice up at camp that would chew everything including power cords.

Quote: This ever happen to any of you I didn't lose anything like computer data, but we had a Husky/Shep mix that used to eat our Christmas balls, and did eat through xome of the cords. One time my wife came home from being somewhere and couldn't get in the house. She went around and came in from the back door and found he had pulled (and chewed) the sofa in front of the front door! Ah, the fun of having a puppy!

@GR58, I back up all my pictures (and documents) nightly off of my main computer to an external USB drive with scheduled RoboCopy jobs. RoboCopy is part of Windows. It's a fairly simple setup, happens in the background, doesn't copy files that already exist and it gives me peace of mind. If I go away for a long period of time, I lock up my external drive in the safe. For this to work my PC is on all (or most) of the time.
Good luck with getting everything back in working order and if you want my RoboCopy scripts, let me know.
An easier option is there are plenty of backup services or Cloud options like DropBox, Google Drive, iCloud, and the like. With that much data though, you'd certainly exceed the free zone.

Why not just buy that dog his own power cords? Impossible to happen to me. I back up everything on flash drives. Actually make copies of each flash drive too. So if anything happens to computer, flash drives have it all. I have a box full of those and just keep on updating. One person I know has several back up hard drives. Just plugs one in to ta USB port, download everything.
