Just wanted to remind you guys to watch where you stash purchases on your way home or on trips. Break ins can happen in unexpected places.
Just had a break in in my car eating dinner at Ruby Tuesdays. They smashed my window and luckily only grabbed my bookbag. It just had some travel stuff in it snacks etc, my razor and sadly my last two months budgets worth of coins I bought.. Total I lost like at most $300 most of the value being the bookbag the razor and the few ounces of pre-1922 British silver I just bought a few days ago at a few places.. It wasn't worth much except to me since it's super hard to find around my home and I had been saving up. I'm just hoping I moved my new mercs out.
Home owners insurance deductible is too high most likely so looks like I will be out of luck. It happened to a half dozen cars and looks like I came out the best. They will be disappointed to see all my crap when they open it up. It was totally full but mostly fruit and water bottles and stale cookies :).
They didn't look hard cause they didn't take my moms purse or my dad's firearms most fortunately. I hate to see what a person like that would do with a gun and ammunition.
So again just be mindful of your surroundings and maybe separate it from your other valuables or what seems like valuables.

Ouch bert, sorry to hear that. In the criminal world that's called "car fishing" I go on road trips all the time for work & pleasure. When I go to say Denneys or any other restaurants I always park where I can see my truck out of an abundance of caution. I've never had an issue with fishing but you never know. Sorry bro

Yes....very sorry to hear that, and your mom and dad were indeed lucky that the gun and purse were not taken. Especially sorry you lost your pocket piece.

Yeah the gun were the biggest thing since it could had been used in the commission of a crime. I really blame Ruby Tuesdays for their bad security, no cameras, parking lot/ building design making it hard to see the lot, and the neglect of management. They knew our car at been broken into but didn't call police or announce anything.
We told them what happened and they just shrugged it off and said someone told them our car was smashed in a while ago So the car was just out in the open with with a smashed in window . Also they didn't know but it became a series of cars. atleast five hit. Some of it could had probally been prevented had they tried to act on information.

Especially since there was a gun sitting in the now open car, this sounds like a local news story - I bet they'd love to ask the restaurant what the heck were they thinking. Sorry for the experience you went through...

Was your name and address in, with, or around, any of the stuff that was stolen? Papers in the glove box --- insurance card, registration, automobile service records etc?
If so, you might want to exercise extreme caution the next few days/weeks/months as these crooks get drug fueled ideas about home invasions when they find stuff like this. They find coins in the bag and they then figure there is more where these came from.
Just be careful and practice situational awareness when leaving and entering your home. If something doesn't look right call 911.
Sorry this happened to you.

No nothing was in the bag fortunately that I know of and they didn't tamper with the registration etc. The cops were worried about that as well. They only took my super expensive snack bag lol. Lots of snacks some coins.
No electronic devices or mail etc. They missed thousands of dollars of stuff and grabbed the least valuable thing in the car thinking it was my laptop. It served as a good decoy atleast. Financially we won the lottery according to the cops. The bag was super heavy and bulky due to a few Tupperware containers in there filled with cereal and pretzels, and a box of ding ding dongs haha.
. I get scared about stuff like that so I make sure my laptop has a excessive level of encryption up to DOD levels due to my business.. Good passwords on my other encrypted devices like phones that self destruct data wise as soon as too many attempts are made. I know if stolen there is little chance of getting them back so it nice to know I can turn them into bricks remotely.
A realtor had her car broken in and she lost her laptop and a briefcase full of customer files.
I feel so stupid leaving my bag even semi out in the open though I have heavily tinted windows.. In my mind it was just snacks so I wasn't thinking hey someone may smash my window for ding dongs or that my bag look more important than it was. If I hadn't been lazy I would have hadn't had the few coins or razor even in there.

Quote: It served as a good decoy atleast. That's the best way to look at it especially considering what could have been taken. But just in case, take westernsky's advice and keep vigilant the next few weeks around the house

You learned a fairly inexpensive lesson about leaving things in your car. Use your trunk.

Never put things in a car that can be seen. Always, if possible, put things of value in the trunk. Keep inside car as clean as possible. This usually make crooks think you have nothing to steal. And if possible, only park where you can see your car.

My Pelican case rolls right in the resturant with me. I understand though that some collectors and dealers have a very large inventory. Sorry this happened. Hope they catch these criminals. Couple of years ago, my late bud johnny54321 and I rolled into a Burger King before a show to get a bite. As justcarl was saying, our backpacks were in my trunk and I backed the car into a spot just outside our Resturant window.

Yeah I was in a dodge Durango, a SUV, so no trunk. Once they break a window they have access to all the cars storage. They could have grabbed everything super easily. We just had everything super well hid, snack bag was in the floorboard with a blanket over it.
