Poll Question
For those who sell coins, under what business structure do you operate? (among other things, this dictates how/if revenue from sales is reported to the IRS)

I voted offset hobby expense. Sell stuff you don't want for stuff you do want Fortunately/Unfortunately it doesn't happen that often.

Only sell super limited and usually it's just a trade with a dealer. Stuff I find in coin rolls etc. He likes me and let's me trade 1964 halves for walkers and franklins etc.

I sell on ebay. When I do an up grade, I sell the removed coin to off set expenses. I am considering selling an entire set, so I can start a new set.

Never sell coins but if I ever did, would not mention to anyone.

Just started selling off extra coins in my collection myself. It's better to have one high grade coin you appreciate than 10 low grade coins that you ignore.

Yes I do sell. I don't like hoarding them all so I just sell off what I don't need/like.

Coins are kind of like jelly donuts for me! I haven't sold one of either so far, since I buy them to make me happy and they both serve that purpose very well. Maybe I'll start selling in the sometime in the distant future but currently its just a hobby.

I was given a lump sum to spend on my hobby. I therefore have to sell to fund new purchases so my collection is semi (in that I also add in cash I receive as Christmas and Birthday gifts) self-financing. I have sold on ebay, privately to other collectors and part-exchanged coins against the cost of a purchase from a dealer ... basically I look to fill gaps and/or upgrade what I have. I almost never buy a coin to sell on. My aim is to improve the 'eye appeal' of my collection. Making a profit is useful, but incidental. .

No, I'm like the British Museum. Once something enters my collection it doesn't leave.

I only collect coins that I personally like, however, I may consider selling my coins from early on in my collecting days...
