As the thread says, whats the coolest coin you were given or have given as a gift?

For me the coolest coin Ive given is a PCGS certified toned morgan (cant remember the year, was a wail ago). Gave it to my best friend who collects uncirculated Morgan dollars. Needless to say he loved it :D

The coolest I've received was a uncirculated Texas Commem from 1934 (Christmas last year from my wife). Needless to say I loved it lol

I really liked the Secret Santa 2014 gift. It showed that he (she?) put some effort into looking at what I liked. I believe they were from Connecticut. I still have the envelope in my drawer.

Also I was working a flea market type deal for my province's birthday in Hartland NB (home of the world's longest covered bridge) so I wanted New Brunswick Pennies to sell. I contacted a guy in Quispamsis NB (home to the world's first ferry guided by underwater cabled) and he said he may have one for sale at $14 and to email me him my adress. I did and I asked what his aderess was and never heard back from him. A week later I get a NB friguit token with a note that says "free". That was a fun surprise.

Coolest gift I gave? When I was teaching English and Gaelic to foreigners at Cape Breton University I gave a Poppy quarter to one of my coin collecting students (collector in the fact that he saves commemorates from change). I explained to him the story of the USA thinking it was spy technology and all that jazz and he was amazed.

I haven't gotten anything from anyone. But I have gave my mom a 1968 proof mint set (her birth year) and my grandma a 1935 Wheat cent (her birth year). Hopefully sometime my parents or relatives will surprise me with something :)

That was nice of you :)

Do you make a Chirstmas list? For someone who normally does not buy coins or does not know what kind of coins you collect, this can be very helpful for them. A lot of the people I have exchanged gifts with over the years don't feel comfortable buying coins since they dont know what their looking for

Aww, that was nice of them to send the token :)

Very thoughtful gift, the historical significance had to have had the student tickled pink

The coolest I've given is a lower grade Carson City Morgan dollar to my grandfather. Heavily worn, but it was a CC, his first.

My parents gave me a few circulated Liberty Half Eagles for Christmas when I was a teenager. They liked that I spent my money on coins instead of typical teenager stuff and saw it as an investment. I still have and cherish them as my first significant value coins.

It's nice to have family members and friends that also collect. It certainly makes gift giving much easier.

I always try to give my parents a few ounces of silver a year for birthdays and Christmas gifts. They aren't into the numismatic side much but they like the idea of owning some silver.

My grandfather likes numismatic coins but doesn't have a coin shop close by (nearest one is a over a hundred miles away and isn't very good) and isn't comfortable using the internet. So my small numismatic gifts to him each year are appreciated.

I have three grandchildren, and for Christmas this year I am going to give them a pint canning jar full of a variety of coins. They will be a mixture of coins from worn large cents to current Presidential dollars. It will include a lot of Indian Head cents, Liberty Nickles, Mercury dimes, etc. Also some older Canadian and Mexican coins. My hope is that it may spur some interest in them to be future collectors.

And unlike the jars sold on ebay, these won't be unsearched and won't contain any rarities. Unless I really screw up.

True, it is very nice to have family members into coin collecting. I was pretty bummed when my younger brother decided he was no longer interested in coin collecting. Luckily my wife ended up becoming more and more interested in the hobby. Shes kind of expensive to buy for though lol.

I do have a cousin who I exchange gifts with at Christmas who is into coin collecting as well. Been exchanging for some 5 years now and have yet to get him a coin (thought itd be to predictable to come from me lol). This year I want to get him something. Hes really into proof sets so I was thinking a 1964 and 63 proof set then a uncirculated morgan/peace dollar (he doesn't have either one of those)

My dad bought me my 1931 S LWC, my grandmother bought me a 1974 proof set, and my mother bought me a 2000 proof set (birth year). Oh, also by little brother bought me a 3 lbs bag of wheat cents and my older brother got me 2 boxes of pennies (found like 40 wheats in all!). That is all that my family have givin me. Now, I know some awesome folks here on CCF, and I have revived sweet deals and even some free coins/currency from some people. That being said all of my coins I have received are my favorite.
