It does look possible especially being a Z but look at the indent on the rim below it following the "line" aND how it skipps. Also it looks like pushed metal around lib. I'm inclined to say PMD but I could be wrong

I don't think it is PMD because the plating is not showing through as it would be if it were in fact PMD.

Argh! I'm trying to remember something I read on some other thread about how you can tell by looking at the ends of it: jagged or smooth,.... Does that ring a bell with anybody?

This is a tough one without having the coin in hand, but I think it is PMD. A Copper plated Zinc cent can be dented without the Zinc showing through. I don't see any damage on the reverse side like would be expected if it were pressed against something, but I do think I can see some of the metal pushed up on the sides of the obverse damage, as would be seen if it were PMD.

Looks like I big gouge to me. The fact that it's pushed up is an indication its not struck through.

Then again, if you didn't weigh it, I suppose it could be a Copper cent. That would explain why the Zinc isn't showing through!

It looks incuse to me from the light and shadows created. (if it were a die gouge it would be raised, not incuse) The reverse shows no disturbance. (no raised areas) The trench looks rounded at the bottom. So it maybe a struck though rim bur or wire from what I can see. (a close up would be nice to see the ends of these areas)

Coop, If you click on the third pics does it enlarge enough or should I get out my scope and "try" to get a closer up shot? John1

The ends show me that something was struck on the coin during the strike. If it were damaged, the line would not end abruptly. The reverse shows no push. So I'm thinking this is a struck through error. (unknown as to what caused it)

Thanks, coop.
I knew I read something about the ends.
Any day now, I'm going to start remembering this stuff.
