There has never been a major design change for the Roosevelt dime in its' 7 decades of being minted. Has anyone heard any talk of such a thing taking place, perhaps in 2021 for the 75th anniversary? Edited by Joecontois 12/01/2015 4:42 pm

It's a very long running series. In a couple years it will be possible to have six coins a decade apart that are essentially identical; 1968-D, 1978-D, 1988-D, 1998-D, 2008-D, and 2018-D!
Time flies when you're having fun.

Or you could get fancy and put together a '66, '76-D, '86-P, '96-W, '06-S, and a silver 2016 next year.

Only real talk was years ago after Ronald Reagan died and there was a brief push to replace Roosevelt on the dime with Reagan. Nancy put an end to that by stating that her husband would not want his portrait to replace Roosevelt's.
Ronald Reagan was an admirer of Roosevelt even though he eventually broke with Roosevelt's over his economic policies.

Interesting, thanks for the info. I think they should do something for 2021.

I have a design idea, but it will not work since FDR is not the Roosevelt on Mount Rushmore. Kill the cent and nickel. Put Mount Rushmore on the dime. Prepare to ditch the quarter when ATB is done. Again, wrong Roosevelt. Swing and a miss.

At least you have a different Roosevelt dime with the march of dimes reverse proof this year.

I honestly am happy any way they go with the dime. I like the coin as it is now but would like to see a renewal of the Barber design too. I think the dime would be best, so it's not replacing George Washington on the quarter. I think people would be most accepting of a change if it were the dime.

The best part about Roosevelt dimes (IMO) is that the complete series fits in one album. Or at least my P-D-S collection does. Haven't added the recent silver proofs yet. It could probably use a change but I'm on the fence about it. It's nice to have a coin that hasn't changed since a few decades before I was born in light of all the other designs du jour.

The Roosevelt dime series includes some really important and interesting coins as well. There's the '68, '70, '83 and the very rare '75 No-S dimes as well as the made for circulation '82-NMM. There are some neat varieties too. Most of the coins aren't extremely tough to locate in Gem so it's possible to put together a set on a shoestring budget.
