Agree, the 50D is a hard one.
I just found one ( and it was beat up pretty bad on the reverse also) earlier this year after many years of searching!

85 rolls today (Brinks box, 25 Brinks rolls and 10 customer wrapped). Box yielded a 19?6 Buffalo and an AU 1956, The 25 rolls yielded one War Nickel (42P). 23 pre 1960's. |

How funny! I'm not a hardcore roll searcher - I'll buy a bunch of rolls every so often - but the only 38 I've found was from one of the very first rolls I searched! Joe |

Finished up a box last night (50 rolls) with the following results:
20 - Pre-60's
1 - 43S war
Still have 8 holes in my from circulation book to fill.

AG - I have a real tough time finding S mints on the east coast. Everything I'm missing is either S or D mints now.

Nice find on that '39D. That's the one I need for my second set! Today I went through 162 rolls (Brinks box + 1 roll, String box + 10 rolls and 51 customer wrapped) Again the String box was pretty good (another 1938, and 2 Buffalos 1934D pretty worn and 1936 and a 1943P war in better shape than most roll finds). The Brinks had a dateless Buffalo and Another 1943P war came from the customer wrapped rolls. A total of 84 other pre 1960 with no keys or even an S mint. As mentioned by Gothic, S mints are harder to find on the eastern side of the US.

 Another great find on the 39-d CND ..... 3 in 6 weeks is amazing! I suppose I got 'lucky' as I found my only 39-d at 22,800 coins searched ...... and I am now almost 100,000 coins beyond that without another one. Brinks box today! 18 pre 1960. Also a 1945P war and a 1971S proof. Not as good of a box as I've been getting! I forgot to mention on my last entry....I broke the Coinstar at my bank.  It had been acting up for the last several days rejecting probably 25-40 percent of the coins I put through it. (Got so bad I skinned up my knuckle pulling nickels from the return slot). It took probably 3X as long as it should have to run the coins through. I pointed it out to the teller and she said she would call them to fix it. Yesterday it died in action. Popped up with a message on the screen "unable to continue with transaction. Your coins are safe. Please see teller for assistance". Teller came over and opened up machine and nickels were all over the place. She ran some code on the machine and it said "coins counted but not seen" (I gather because they were all over the inside of the machine and under it). Now I have a growing hill of coins to turn in when they get it fixed! |

ratman, Coinstar in your BANK? No fee? The bank I go to with a machine just has a simple low to the ground machine that has a big receptacle that you dump everything into. The receptacle just barely holds 100 nickel rolls, and I sit and watch the machine grind them up! Another update; some very interesting things in this group, and a number of tougher to find dates! My knowledge of nickels begins and ends with the buffalo, and the silver "wartime"... That being said, I was at my bank last week picking up a couple of boxes of cents and noticed that the teller next to me had 10 paper wrapped rolls of nickels. I found out that an elderly woman had just turned them in, and decided to buy them. (I've done crazier things with $20 in the past.)  I kept 14 that were pre-1960. The oldest was a 1939...no wartime... And this 1982s. Is it a proof? (feel free to laugh at me for asking...as I mentioned before...I'm clueless when it comes to nickels)  |

Yes, a Coinstar in my bank with NO fees to their customers (4.9% to non- customers). It looks different than the one in the grocery stores but still has the lock boxes instead of bags. I've never seen anybody else using it, although the day I broke it somebody else had just come in to use it...LOL.
Nice find on that MAD.

Your 1940 is beautiful CND ...... it would for sure be an update to my circulation strike collection.
I'm still 4 coins short in my Whitman 9009 .... Jefferson 1938-1961
Still searching .... will not give up.
