Did 50 rolls today mostly fed with 3 string rolls. not as productive as before, only 20 pre 1960s but did get a 1950 though

I had some continued success with Brinks rolls this week. I got a 1947-S which I needed for my album. I only need 13 dates now to complete it (mostly S mints and years with less than 10mm mintages). I also picked up a 1943-P War Nickel today. That makes a total of 9 War Nickels this year. Not a huge amount I know, but I'm still proud non the less. I'm setting some aggressive goals for 2010 as regards nickels and halves. More later on the specifics. |

Today was torture. 60 rolls (Brinks box and 10 customer wrapped rolls). I was glad to finally be done with the box. 18 total pre 1960 (13 from Brinks and 5 from customer wrapped) Nothing worth mentioning. This is by far the worse box I've ever searched. Brinks boxes had been really great but the last couple weren't that good at all.

Picked up a Fed box today and blazed through it, came out with 29 pre-1960 including a 1945-P War Nickel, and (drum roll please) my very first Buffalo in the wild!     Probably 15,000 coins in on nickel roll searching before finding my first...I suspect now that I've broken the seal, I'll be getting one a box at least!  Unfortunately, it's very well worn and dateless.  I'll probably try to pick up another box on Saturday morning...gotta pass this time at the in-laws somehow! Merry Christmas all! Edited by DylansDad

I've not been serious about Nickel searching until now. Did a box of Nickel a while ago and found a dateless buff and a war timer; Ordered 12 boxes for the holidays and just finished the last box. Here is the overall result: 3 Buffalo nickels (1937 and two dateless); 12 War Nickels (average one per box; 1 1943-D; 1 1944-S); Key and semi-keys: 1939D 1; 1943D 1; 1949S 2; 1950 1; 1951S 1; 1955 2. There are 11 holes left in my folder; 1938, 1938D, 1938S, 1939S,1942D, 1944D,1945P, 1945D,1946S, 1948S,and last but not the least, 1950D. According to CND stats, I feel pretty lucky to have found 1939D (showed up in the 7th box) and 1943D in only 650 rolls; I only keep semi-keys, war timers, buffalos, and au samples of pre-1956. I have to say that searching nickels is very addicting; When you get a 1939 obverse, you want to flip it over and wish there is a mint mark; One of 13 times there should be a mint mark and one of 37 times that mint mark should be D statistically. It's like playing video poker and being dealt with 4-card Royal, for one out 47 times the fifth card will make a Royal Flush. This flipping anticipation can be applied to 1938, 1942, 1943, 1946,1948,1949,1950, and 1955 (to not see a D). If a war-timer reverse with D mintmark shows up, you want to flip it over to see if it's a 1943. I think I am going to do much more Nickels in 2010. |

Nice find on the 39D and 43D. I found a 39D about a month ago and was so excited (thinking it was the last I needed for my 2nd set) but ended up that I needed 39S. I've found about a roll and a half of War Nickels over the last month and a half and NO 43D. Needless to say the 38D,38S,39S and 50D will be the hardest to find in circulation out of the 11 you need (unless you get lucky). The 46S and 48S should be fairly easy (I'm on the East coast and I've seen quite a few) |

I found a blazing 1964 proof today in some brinks rolls... My first proof nickel. I'll try to get some pictures up. It looks like it was just cracked out of the set and put into circulation. I would bet that the rest of the set is out there in brinks rolls!!

Today 86 rolls (Brinks box +14 and 22 customer wrapped) Another far from Spectacular Brinks box. 45D (from Customer wrapped) and 38 other pre 1960.
(After a 2 week soak in vinegar it appears that 2 of my roll find Buffalos are 1915D and 1918S)

Worked through a half box of nickels last night yielding 13 pre-59's including a 41S that filled a spot for me. I'm now down to 7 more for my Jefferson set: 39S, 44D, 50, 50D, 51S, 55, & 58
