On a serious note, is this even worth the trouble? I went through a $25 box last night, sorted out the 81 and older. About 33% of my box is pre 82. Which I think is pretty good to what others are getting. I do not want to hoard these, i'd rather sell them as bullion. Would it even be worth my time to sell these on ebay with all the fees and such? I've seen $50 worth go for $95-100, almost doubling the money. Where else would these sell? I dunno, just seems like a waste of time to me. Thoughts?

I started saving them for the past couple month just from change alone and already have saved close to $3 worth of pre 82 cents and well I think it's worth it if you're going to resell them on ebay or any other sale medium

It depends on how fast you can go through them and what you feel your time is worth after you pay the shipping and fees. Try to calculate how much you would make by the hour. Then factor in how much you enjoy doing it and decide whether it's worth it to you.
I'm currently looking through cents in an effort to put together an AU (or better) roll set for 1959-present. I'm not planning on selling and wouldn't make a ton of money if I did. I enjoy going through them so it's worth it to me.
Whatever you do, have fun!

well, if you got nothing else to do, then you're not getting paid either way. This way you can go through the rolls, find what you are looking for and quickly separate the pre 82ers. It's a win win, you find what you are looking for and make a little extra cash for finding stuff other people are looking for. If I could carry $25 boxes of pennies from the bank I would, but I can't lift anything ovr 10 lbs for med reasons so I am out of luck

I think it'd be worth my time, just not sure how or where to sell to make it worth while. At the rate I'm getting pre 82's, I think I can get a $25 box within $100. I'll save them for a bit, see how fast its going, then go from there.

Ceaton, I am big time copper hoard guy and do it all the time sometimes. I am up to 150 dollars face or 15000 coins so far. I learned one thing your not going get rich doing it. I spend 125 on boxs and get one 25 dollar box. My 1959 thru 1981 junk coppers are by products from building 13 sets from 1941 thru 2007 folders for sale on ebay. If was you and going do it. I would buy he harris folders for 6 bucks per set. At the same your cleaning copper from fedboxs. Start installing the 1959 thru 2007 clean pennys in folders to sell on ebay. The 1941 thru 1958 buy those wheats in rolls on ebay to get those. Sell an finished set for 35 to 49 bucks on ebay no problem as used penny sets. Thats what do I becides hoard copper. I save all super clean 83 thru 2007 zincs to build rolls since I was going buy an 1941 thru 1958 roll set on ebay and 100 folders to build 50 sets for ebay. Reason why I have lots extra 1960 thru 2007 bu rolls I need use up. Aslong with lots clean zincs I found over last serval monlths. I would not bother just hoard 59 thru 81 copper junk boxs or set rejects if I was not building sets like I do. There are those guys on ebay who buy those penny shorters from rydale . Those guys are buying up thousands of dollars worth pennys all the time and are wanting to put back serval tons or millions of copper pennys. You can read all about on real cent forum. I am member at that website and its been fun for me. If I had extra 350 to 800 bucks I would buy an rydale machice to short out coins. On selling them on ebay is it easy just sell for 49 bucks for one box. I not selling intill I get maybe 500 dollars face or so. Then it be worth the time trouble for me to sell it in large amount like that. I am up 153 face and I may ordor another 10 or 50 boxes from banks to work on my sets and junk 59 thru 81 copper boxs. Find an dump bank with machices to count coins. I dont roll up those 83 thru 07 zincs anymore. I bag it and dump into bank machices. Its takes to long to try roll up an stupid penny roll. I just bag my rejects and dump ito machices . Why spend hours rolling up rejects. I do roll all my 59 thru 81 cents with expensive coin containor rolls I buy at Walmart . I repack them back into Brinks 25 dollar copper boxs. I dont reuse cwi or fedboxes since they are junk boxs. I tape them shut for long term storage. On my junk copper boxes. I dont roll any 1968 thru 1974 s mints or any 1970 s cents or 1960 cents. I put them into an bag with all 1982 cents in one box also. I put all bu / au or decent looking 59 thru 81 cents into an box to build sets later with them. All my 59 thru 81 junk copper rolls are brown or green junk copper bullion. Chevrolet454ss

Thanks Chevrolet, you put some good ideas into my head. You seem to be the master coin roll searcher from other threads, or at least you go through the most.
With my first $500 halves box coming in tommorow, I keep asking myself why I even bother going through pennies. I love the hunt for wheats, but 40-50's starts getting disappointing. Got a 27D out of this box tonight, but still. So I guess I'm stretching for ideas to continue searching pennies.

I currently have an estimated 55,000 Lincoln Cents, with no interest at this time in searching through them.

Ceaton, Thats main reason I love searching pennys is find those wheat pennys and build sets out them. I went thru $125 worth pennys and just got finished over serval days time. I will cash the zinc back into bank and pull all money to get ready for new round of boxes since just got done with all my boxes I bought last week. My last round of pennys I was flooded with 4 2008 denver boxs and 3 2007 denver boxes. I will list my 2008 denver boxes on ebay since they so new they paying around 75 bucks to around 115 on those 25 buck face boxs for whatever reason. Those 2007 boxs I may trade for old coin boxes. I dont know yet on 2007 fedboxs. Out the 5 old penny boxs searched I found 1 1919 s penny and grand totol of 44 old wheat pennys from 1937 thru 1958 . No s mints found I needed. Most coins were junk coins but that 1919 s was nice. I did finish all my sets on 1968 thru 1974 s mints out that batch. I needed an lot 1982 small date pennys but all I found was junk in those boxes I dont want install in those sets I am building. I may found an 1970 s small date I need check it out to see ifs an small date. 1970 is hard figure out on small dates. Thats hard to compare another 70 small date. Its just an old brown hole filler. I love those Half dollar boxes over those penny boxs for sure. I just built 6 sets on those after going thru 12 boxs on those last monlth. My 1964 silver coins I had to buy on ebay but got luckey on 65 thru 69 silvers in those boxes . If get you nothing on first 500 dollar box dont give up . My first 7 boxs were nothing boxs but the last 5 boxes I got silver from them. Thats the way it is on finding 2002 and up coins and silver, proof coins in those half boxs. I am excited about the next batch I get on coins. I am ready for another batch. That batch was fun I got some nickels to fill my books, upgraded my 65 thru 07 quarter book, Finished my half dollar sets and played with few pennys last monlth on coin roll hunting. Have fun with your first box of half dollars . My first box last year I found an 1999 proof and an 1962 ben coin. I was amazed after that find. Chevrolet454ss

Just sold last Sunday $50.00 in face of 1959-1981 copper on ebay. Closed at $71.29 Factor in the associated cost of ebay and paypal, I netted a grand profit of $12.41. I just tossed em aside while doing the cent project so it wasnt something that I would of normally done. I went through about $175.00 to get the $50.00 Just an FYI..

On my junk copper boxes. I dont roll any 1968 thru 1974 s mints or any 1970 s cents or 1960 cents. I put them into an bag with all 1982 cents in one box also. --- Hey just curious...why do you keep the 1982 cents separately? I only keep the 82 coppers and I know they are copper because I weigh them on a digital scale. I am just wondering if I should save the 82 zincs for some reason?

Its just an old brown hole filler. --- Those are hard to tell...from what I have seen and read, the 1970-S small date has the top of the 7 line up with the top of the 0. On the large date, the top of the 7 is below the top of the 0. The difference is small though and it's hard to tell without good magnification.
