I don't have much expertise on minting errors. Is there even such a thing?

Looks like you may have found a mated pair. Is there an area between them that is flattened a bit on the edge?

Note the flat area on the edges between the two in this image. That would be convincing if it is a mated pair.

There can also be a bonded pair also. (Sorry yours in not)

A better find is the bonded pair.

I'm with you NSS-52... I'm a little skeptical about that auction...

Looking at the way the coins line up, I'm thinking they are not a mated pair. It doesn't look like they will fit together as if struck at the same time. I could be wrong but it looks slightly off.

Looks a bit off for mated pair. Using the reverse columns and planters as a guide, the columns and planters alignment should be shifted one over, which makes it even more off. Just a rookies thoughts. Thanks, Doug.

How would you even find a bonded or fused pair? It's amazing that that's even a thing that could leave the mint.

Years ago the coins were put into mint sealed bags.
You could buy these backs until 2000 when they went into putting the coins in bins.
These are now shipped to locations for distribution.
The error coins they find are supposed to be returned to the mint for canceling.
That is they way it is they intended it to work.
