I had already done multiple drops and pickups yesterday, but I just had to scratch the itch, so I went out for a 4th dump and pickup.

When I entered the dump bank, the tellers told me that they had some large dollar coins for me, 24 of them to be exact. Of course I offered to take them all. I put my 24 dollars on the counter and she starts to double count the big dollars on the counter.

About halfway through the stack, I spot the reverse of a Morgan dollar! I couldn't believe it. She spotted it too, and picked it up. Argh, the tension!

She said, "hmm, United States of America, one dollar. Ok then," and she counted it and moved on!! I took the coins and put them in my pocket, not looking at the date before leaving the store.

And when I left, and looked, it was 1885o !

my 3rd dollar find in the wild, and my first morgan from the wild. time to update my signature!

Thanks Tesla. It is quite amazing that this can still happen here! I also scored a 1925 Peace dollar from a teller about a month ago too.

And, I just did the magnet test on the Morgan, it passes!

I probably wouldn't have questioned it. Looks like a nice, honestly circulated and worn 1885. Great that you can rest assured though. And an O mintmark in the wild--NICE!

That is so cool ...

If I found one in the wild like that.

The story behind the coin .. to me ... means it would
always have a spot in my collection.

thanks everyone, it really was something out of the blue, and its something that I will remember for a long time. As long as I keep looking, I might just find another one. In this case, the late bird got the worm.

Wow, that's an amazing find! I can imagine what it would have been like waiting for the teller to finish inspecting it.
