I have 8 missing holes left in my 7070 album. I have had a lot of fun working on it. I am wondering what others have done with regards to buying certified coins for their 7070. Did you crack them out and put them in the album or just keep them close by and pull the slabs out when looking at the album. Of the 8 missing spots in my 7070 I probably have 5-6 of those in slabs that I bought years ago. I really hate to crack them out but then again I don't like looking at the empty holes either. What should I do?

I guess I should also state that the ones I have in slabs are the pricier ones such as the Trade dollar (one of the more counterfeit coins in the entire album), .20 piece, Seated dollar, etc.

Buy lower-grade coins as hole fillers, or fill the holes with counterfeits. That's what I am doing with my type set albums.

I think that some people have photographed the coin in the slab and put the picture in the hole!

Place replicas in there, exact size stamped and legal and then place you real ones close to it

If you are worried about resale value in the future, then don't break out the coins. Me I don't care and just want something to hopefully pass to my children if they (only one he right now) ever get into collecting. If you don't mind, I say break it out and don't look back! I love how they look in the Dansco album.

I'm working on a virtual 7070. This is just several TIFF files (one per page), with coin pics overlaid onto simulated album pages. About half the coins are slabbed, and the rest are raw. Some of the better coins are kept in safety deposit boxes.

This is a great question . I do not like this idea, Quote: Buy lower-grade coins as hole fillers, or fill the holes with counterfeits. That's what I am doing with my type set albums.
Why spend money on low grade coins or counterfeits? A 7070 album in my belief should be the best coin you can afford to show the coin as is and highest grade. From 52Raymo, Quote: I crack em out and put the paper insert in the back. , great idea

Bpoc...I agree with you. I have worked too hard on the other coins in the album to buy lower grade coins and I really don't want any counterfeit coins in my collection period (atleast that I know about).

I have cracked out nice coins to fill empty holes in my 7070, and not felt bad at all.
To crack or not to crack.
If it is a coin you think you will sell in the future, and it will sell better in the slab, then don't crack it.
The coin is the same, weather it is in the slab or out. If it will make you happy having it filling that empty hole.
A option is to put a similar coin in the empty hole and make a label/sticker with the slab information on it.
So what will make you the happiest Empty hole Labeled hole Filled hole

From 52Raymo, Quote: I crack em out and put the paper insert in the back +1. This what I did. I did it after seeing someone else's collection in a Dansco 7070 with this done several years ago.

I mostly was able to do raw coins in my 7070 but I probably cracked maybe 4 or 5 slabs to complete it. I have cracked a number of slabs for my Lincoln collection, so in general I tend towards cracking them out.

Cracking your coins out to fill your 7070 is fine -- until you go to sell them. If that's not a concern then crack away.
My type set is based on the NGC Registry Set. And ALL of the coins in my set are slabbed. They have to be for me to enter them into the Registry Set. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am getting to that point. I may buy a slabbed coin just so I know it's genuine, then I will crack it and put it in my album. It's not like I'm going to buy a 25000 coin for my collection anyways.

Quote: Why spend money on low grade coins or counterfeits? Actually, buying the counterfeits was a valuable educational experience. They allow you to get a "feel" for the counterfeits that just looking at pictures does not supply. Also, my type album has holes for coins like the chain cent and flowing hair dollar, so filling the holes with counterfeits is the best I can do on my budget right now.
