I was looking at the lettering stamped on the side, and noticed that a couple were stamped with the opposite side up.
Is it luck of the draw how the fall(obverse or reverse up) into machine to be stamped on the edges? Or should they all be facing same way up to read edge?
I got excited about this a few years ago when I noticed that one of mine had the lettering facing the other way, but found out that they are just dumped into the machine.
There have been mint errors where a coin either got no edge letters (like the famous "Godless" Washington) or got two sets of letter with A and B on the same coin.
Quote: PCGS refers to the edge stamp orientation as Pos. A or Pos. B
Yet another way for the TPG's to keep their hand in your pocket. Because you have just " got " to have a collection of Pos. A and a collection of Pos. B in order to have a "complete " collection.
The odds are in favor of an equal number of POS A and POS B's providing the coins are randomly dropped into the hopper and out of the hopper into the edging machine.
Going back to your title... No question is dumb if you don't know. Even more so in the coin collecting world. The only people in my opinion that think simple questions are dumb are the wannabe elitists. And they are usually the ones that think they know it all. But in realtime we know what is really going on.
