You'll need 50 quality posts here on the forum to get the chance to sell these on here. However, coins like this would need to be assessed 1 by 1 if you think they are in great shape and are worth a bit. That being said, people here on the forum are out to help people and no one will really try to rip you off or give you false info on these cents. The price on the two coins you have posted seem quite high, but I will leave that for others to assess. We will also need some good pictures of certain coins to get an idea of what condition they are in

I would suggest you start by listing Year and Quantity and we can help guide you on the more valuable years. The Coinsandcanada.com site can be very helpful, but it is important to remember that most of the prices you see are nowhere near achievable, you are better looking at their recent ebay prices. If the prices you have on the flips are where you think the coins are valued you will likely be disappointed unless they are uncleaned and a high grade mint state coin. I purchased a ICCS graded 1876 MS63 for ~$120. I fully agree with what others have said and you will need to post some clear closeup pictures for us to help you determine grades, which can help you get a better idea on value. The most important thing, is DO NOT CLEAN THEM, even if they look dirty, it will kill the value. I am looking forward to seeing what you have, it looks like a nice start to a collection.

It seems as if they are already cleaned, though.

Try to post a clear picture of the reverse and obverse of each coin. I know it seems like a lot of work but trust me, it will be worth your while to do so.

I'm hoping that the 2 prices you have on the 2X2's means that the zeros are for "cents". If you look on the Coins and Canada coin site, you can expect to sell a similar coin in a similar, uncleaned condition for 40-60% of what is listed. If you go to the store and pick up a copy of Canadian Coin News, which has "Trends", you can get about 50-70% of what's listed. A library might also have the Coin News or a copy of the annual Charlton or Haxby coin guides(paperbacks). However, from the wear/color of the 2 you have, they appear to be both cleaned and polished. Those would be worth only about 20-30% of what's listed for that grade. Except for scarce "varieties" of the 1859, 1881, 82, 84, and a couple others, only the 1858's and 1891 small leaf subsets are worth any big premium. Most VF-20 Victoria large cents can be had for about $5-$6, if they are not harshly cleaned. Edwatds for a dollar or 2 and George's about the same (or a little less).

The collection looks very well organized. Maybe you will find a list or inventory of all the coins?

sorry to hear about your dad. please dont get too excited about the value as listed, the $400 and $900 are closer to $4.00 and $9.00 as darryl said if you want to sell - ebay is your best bet. to get further advice as to value (here is you best bet) you will need larger in focus pictures.

My condolences as well. Unless you're in a dire financial situation, often it's wise to let some time pass before making a decision to sell such things as inherited coins collections. Just a thought, but once it's gone you can't get it back even if you come to regret doing so later.

First: My deepest simpathy for your dad lost. Second: Welcome to the site. Third: As a couple of members have pointed out, it looks like all of the coins have been harshly cleaned.Unless you have some very rare varieties, I think that the value has nothing to get excited about. Sorry about that.

Sorry for your loss as well. That said you have by the looks of what you have posted a rather pedestrian lot of Large cents that have been heavily cleaned or otherwise played with. Actually quite typical for Canadian collectors of your relatives era.

I like how you used an box to house slide for a projector for the coins! A friend of mine does the exact same thing and I kind of wish I started that way too!
With respect to the coins... don't expect a large offer on the coins. The ones that you have shown look like they have been cleaned which brings down the value in coins. Also dealers aren't going to give you top dollar for the coins because they have to sell and make a profit. I'm not a dealer.... but if I was I would ask myself two questions. #1 Is there a large demand for coins in this condition. #2 Can I re-sell this material in a relatively short period of time. Unfortunately I feel the answer to #1 is "no" and the answer to #2 is "only if I sell them for a very cheap price"
