I am new to this, please forgive me, but I think I got the files mixed up and posted the wong file NAME. Again forgive me for learning, but this is the same 1964 Silver Kennedy half dollar I posted earlier. if I had a really good camera I would be able to show you that "HALF DOLLAR" on the reverse is doubled  Edited by Linda Falcon

What? I've been on this forum for a while, and I have no clue what you mean by that. Can you give us a bit more info to help me understand what you mean? Are you suggesting someone welded the coin? or the die?
Edit to add:
I zoomed in on your pic as much as I could, they do appear raised, but I have been fooled by pictures and lighting before. I see some characteristics of a weld, but have no idea how you could weld that small, and without heat discoloration. Really need better pictures, but I am interested in finding out what you have there.

He is suggesting the coin is welded not the die. It does happen from time to time. This is definitely PMD. I do not think that anything would cause X's on both the obverse and reverse at the mint. -CRHer |

It is not a weld, that would produce obvious heat discoloration. The coin received angular cuts which vertically displaced the metal, giving it a raised appearance.

Linda, Going to need better pics. Half Dollar being doubled is most likely MD because it is very common on JFK halves. Do you have a digital point-n-shoot camera? John1  |

This probably the most likely scenario but we wont really know until we can view some better images. There is also the small possibility that the die was vandalised at the mint to produce this, Stranger things have happened at the Mint. |
