as much as I am enjoying being part of coin community, I sometimes wonder what was the reason for creating such a forum at the first place. What was the goal of it? People that joined the forum when it only lunched, how did you come across it and what made you decide to join and what made you stay here for so long?

I have NO idea why or when CCF was started But I am glad it was.
I have only been a Member since January 2011 and since then I have gotten to know many of the Members and they are a great bunch

CCF was launched just over 11 years ago, in February 2005.

CCF's founders and owner-administrators, Bobby131313 and SusanLynn9, were active members on another coin forum. But they disagreed with some of that forum's policies, so they thought they'd try to start up their own forum. Several of the other founding members of CCF and the original moderators were folks who agreed with them, in terms of the things they'd like to see on a coin forum.

The first post ever made on the forum was presumably a test thread which was subsequently deleted. Thread number 2 still exists, the original Welcome thread, in the Archive. You can find it here.

I joined the forum almost exactly a year after it started, in January 2006. I found out about CCF when it was posted on a now-long-defunct Australian coin forum, that I was then a member of, that one of CCF's most helpful founding members, catman, had passed away.

When I joined, the forum was still relatively new and I think still deeply feeling catman's loss. He was a keen world coin collector, and many people on the forum were asking questions about world coins that nobody was answering. So I joined, and started answering questions. I'm still here 10 years later.

I found CCF probably around January 2007. I didn't officially join until January 2008. I don't have that many posts considering how long I have been a part of CCF but I could not even begin to explain how much I have learned about the hobby since joining. I always recommend CCF to any new coin collectors that I cross paths with.

Thanks for the information SAP about the founding of the forum. CCF has stayed true to the vision and values of the CCF mission statement of that second post by SusanLynn9.

Researching with Google brought up CCF so much over the years I finally joined.

Of course other coin forums, sites and info followed in my searches, but none had the structure and or boundaries like CCF has setup for those that just want to know or learn.

The knowledge base here has built up to a degree that seems to be unmatched in my book. I thank the founders, staff, administrators, moderators and members that all had a part in that.

Thanks, Doug.

I'm glad I found CCF several years back and have gained a lot of information from it since then. While I haven't posted a lot lately, I will be retiring soon and will have more time to devote to my favorite hobby and expect to be more active again.

As I remember many of us came over from the old CoinWorld Forum when it was discontinued but my memory may be a little hazy. I believe this was shortly after CCF was founded and we all had an invite.

I used to try many of the other coin web sites but there was always something wrong with them. Not sure when and how I found this one but I'm still here.
