Never seen lines like this in a coin. Is this the way a nickel usually wears down?

There are marks like this all over coin took pictures of most noticeable spots.

Are all the lines in field of coin natural wear or something else?

Thanks for any info...Mont

That is Die Deterioration. The nickel in the coin makes the dies wear faster, plus add in the extra thickness and the dies get old. Your coin was struck with a die that is probably ready to be retired.

Orange peel is on the poorly plated Zincolns of the 1980's. They did realize there was an issue with the rinsing technique until after a few years. We still see it now on them on the current cents, but not as bad as at first.

Do the "orange peels" add any premium? Because I believe I have quite a few from the 80's.

They are a blemish to collectors. Just suited for circulation.

Thanks for the images you posted on your coin. I added them to my educational image files. Here is three of them:

Thanks for the info guys!!

@Coop Love what you did to my pictures...glad they were good enough to help you out!

So from the sound of it this coin came out with "wrinkles" from the mint. Wow ugly from the get go. Any value in it, being one of the last coins for this die, or just keep it for reference?

They are kind of the bottom of the barrel for this die. So no, unless you want to show it to a new collector.
