Hi all!
First post in the error coin section. My son and I found this nickel while CRH'ing.

He was excited, always likes something different. I read through this forum and it sounds like if the other side is normal, than it is a misaligned die strike.

Just curious on people's take on this coin.

Thanks!

Misaligned Dies are only valuable when the devices are falling of the edges. Your coin falls into that category. This is a very nice example of a MAD. Hold on to this one, it is a really nice find!

Thank you Dustin6 for the feedback! As far as value, is it like a $0.50 find, or a couple bucks? I want to surprise my son when he gets home as to what he found :) Thanks so much!

As far as value goes, you could check on ebay to see what something like that is going for. I'd estimate $2-$3 but I'm not fully positive. Could be a little more, or a little less, but somewhere in that range.

Note the reverse at 2:00-5:00. That area is weak because the hammer die was offset and not centered over the anvil die. A keeper. Here is why your coin looks that way:

Note illustration on the left hand side. It shows the incorrect centering of the hammer die.

Great find! I'd put the value higher than what Dustin6 posted, I think it's worth maybe $8.

The thing is, the prices for error coins are all over the place and change from month to month.
