I remember hearing of this app some time ago ... I think they'll have some problem getting customers.

Tje fact you have to charge it seems to me like an inferior alternative. The Swedish widely-used mobile app "Swisch" transfers money digitally from bank account to bank account. The app is apparently a collaboration by many banks (11 I think).

Only the new generation could possibly warm up to this nonsense. Privacy will be nonexistent and it will be easier to rob a person without the use of violence. Sign me up!

Gross, I want nothing to do with this. I've never needed to plug in a credit card or cash into the wall before I can use it.

Cryto-currencies seems like there is no end to them. Quantum cash But for to many reasons cash in hand will be around for a long time yet I'm sure.

Agreed, you mean potential hackers. It is slowly starting to feel like the movie, "Minority Report". Google Chrome remembers where you have web surfed, ebay, Amazon, etc. what you have looked at and shopped for and presents ads on them later on. Your mobile phone can be used as a tracking device. One day in the near future, when you walk into a store, the door greeter robot will use facial recognition and greet you by your name, plus tell you what is on sale. Data is based on your foot traffic, social media, e-commerce sites, and what you have looked at previously in the store. Then you get into your electric self-driving car home. Will I use digital currency? No. Cash is still King. End rant here.

Some day soon, someone within government will reason - in a cost saving measure, that we are creating way too much coinage/notes as a result of less use. I rarely touch money now (not much to it anyway but polymer and clad steel) and use debit and e-mail cash for transactions and transfers. This new technology is just another way to pay, iphone pay, cube chip reader on your phone, tap and go wands, cards etc. It is traceable and big brother is always watching to sell more. Cash will be king until they do away with it. Then our collections will be a bit of a bygone era.

Mintchip doesn't seem a lot different than PayPal, aside from originating in Canada.

I live in China and this summer I am leaving China for good. I leave on the 30th but I don't get my final paycheque until 4 July. Since the government controls the money, I can't easily transfer funds from my Chinese bank. So I buy bitcoins. I can buy them online by transferring funds to the seller's bank account and I get the bitcoins, which are held in escrow before the transaction. Then I can move them immediately to wherever I want, instantly and with a very minimal fee. I can convert them to fiat and have the money deposited to any bank account in the world. Sure beats stuffing 500 euro bills down my underwear, the bills purchased from the black-market exchanges who hang out at the entrance to the banks.

Just to add, I don't really see the point of this new system, since it does everything Bitcoins do. Having the price fixed to the CDN dollar means nothing because when you buy something using Bitcoins, you decide on the price of the object based on USD anyway in order to decide the price in BTC. The only difference is that BTC are anonymous and I really doubt this new system will be.

Tom Swift you just said it "since the governments control the money" is exactly why for us here in Ca it always best to use cash. I use cash 99% of the time,I know many of you don't but why third party everything especially your money. Electronic money wont do you any good what so ever if a grid or something else goes wrong. Not using cash also contributes to a lack of interest for our hobbyist's.

Seen on program called disruptors on BNN, is a new system of worldwide transactions called Blockchain (not sure if this is same as topic) but I couldn't even begin to explain so please look it up. They said that Canada is leading the way and at least a couple years ahead of everybody else. should mean lots of opportunities for Canadians. They claim this may be as an important advancement as the web was.
