{Note that whenever I refer to 'coins' in this post, I am referring to the 2014-D En. Uncirc. Sac dollar.}

As many of you know, the US Mint produced a relatively small number of 2014-D Enhanced Uncirculated Sac dollars - 50,000.

There are not many of these coins in perfect condition, SP-70 (NGC) or MS-70 (PCGS), although there's one for sale for $20,000 if you're interested. [https://goccf.com/t/166229&whichpage=63#2251550]

Since I like Sac dollars, but I don't want to overpay for them, I did a little geeky research on sales price trends. It turned out ebay was the best source of data, in fact, the PCGS auction realized price chart primarily shows ebay sales.

Links to more nerdy details are at the end of this post, but here's the gist:

If you want to purchase a near-perfect (69) slabbed coin, with some patience and calculated bidding, you can check ebay auctions and buy one for under $35, including postage. You can find BIN coins for under $40, including postage, although only a couple of sellers offer that price. The range is from $39 to $107 per coin.

The above assumes you don't believe in paying a 'PCGS premium'. The average sales price for NGC SP69 coins over the last three months is $35, including postage. However, the average sales price for PCGS MS69 coins over the last year is $66. (I refer to different time periods, i.e., three months vs. one year, to compare an equivalent number of sales - there were more NGC slabbed coins sold than PCGS in 2015-2016.)

I have yet to see any evidence that PCGS is 88% more accurate than NGC, so I'm personally not willing to pay 88% more for a PCGS slabbed coin. But if you prefer to purchase PCGS-slabbed coins only, ebay has a few BIN offers, ranging from $70 to $143 each.

Thanks, mark, I don't have the 2014 and have been meaning to pick up a set, although I'd want to also get one in original packaging. In the practical market, -69 slabs don't really seem to appreciate much, so if l
I expect to ever sell, I try for 70s. However, as you quoted, in this issue, 70s are kinda ridiculous.

I agree re: the SP/MS-69 coins - prices have gradually declined and might be leveling off (according to the trend analysis I did, but more time is needed to know for sure).

Moderators - Regarding, "*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***", please do not take this as a criticism as y'all do an outstanding job in my estimation, having been on many online discussion boards where the mods are on a power trip or something (certain forums on Read-it are the worst). [Apparently the name of that social site is Verboten, which frankly I can understand.]

This is simply a point of clarification. The forum I originally posted in, US Modern Coins, is described as: "Lincoln Cents, Jefferson nickels, Roosevelt dimes, Washington quarters, Franklin halves, Kennedy halves, Presidential dollars, Sacagawea dollars, SBA Dollars, Eisenhower dollars."

Although when I first visited CCF, I assumed posts about Sacs should go in the present forum (US Commemoratives and Non-Circulating Coinage), since Native American dollar coins are not officially issued for general circulation.

Perhaps y'all might want to modify the description for the US Modern Coins forum.

It is a judgement call.

These enhanced uncirculated dollars are only issued in the Coin & Currency sets. These sets are announced and discussed in this forum, therefore those who would have most interest in this thread are more likely to find it here.

No need to update anything. I would have left it had it been a post about all 2014 dollars.

Oh, for what it is worth, the 2012+ business strike dollars are only NIFC by executive order. Get rid of the one dollar note and all of these dollars sitting in vaults will find their way into circulation.

Thanks jbuck!

I not only learned more about CCF forum categories, but also more about what constitutes circulation in the U.S.

Yeah, it is amazing that we cannot get our act together on these dollar coins.

For what it is worth, having modern NCLT in this forum is a relatively recent change (previously just commemorative coins here), so no harm no foul on your part.

Interesting read on enhanced SAC's, thanks for posting.

Mine are all in their OGP. I have yet to see graded ones at
my LCS's. I would find it interesting to see what coin shops
might try to sell them for.
