I cracked my first slab today. It made the most satisfying snap, I loved every moment. Free the TPG's! I also completed my KHD and LMC sets today. My first cracked slab. It is a PCGS PR69DCAM. The last Kennedy for my set. No, I don't have the Accented Hair. Yes, I have the 1998 Satin Proof. No, I don't have the 2014 Gold. My last Lincoln Memorial cent. I have one more coin for my 1981-S Type 2 registry set, a slabbed Kennedy half. They are all PCGS PF 69 DCAM coins. Bring on the dancing fruit!

Congrats! jbuck will love this thread! I'm doing the same thing for most of my Dansco albums. I've got 2-1/2 PCGS boxes so far that need to be cracked for my Lincoln 7106 albums. One of these days I'll get crackin'.

Okay, I'll bite: Won't cracking out your coins diminish their value for resale?

Coinfrog, you are most likely right about diminishing resale value but this is the absolute rock bottom reason that I collect coins. I am a real black hole as far as coins are concerned, they go into my collection and never come out. There have been three times that I have sold and/or traded some of my coins and I regret each and every one. My younger son says that he will just sell my coins after I die. He can do what he wants, I won't care anymore.

Especially an MS/PF coin, and then handle it and put it into an album! But anyway, thanks for the replies.

for sure. Congrats on those completed albums! I have cracked many coins for my Dansco albums. 5 Franklin Proof coins, 1916D AG3 Mercury dime, a couple of Peace dollars. I don't even remember them all. And like you Oldephriam, the very few coins / paper money that I did sell I sincerely regret to this day. And my now 28 year old son will sell most of my collection once he inherits it so I will continue to crack the ones I want to put in my albums. I am just a handful away from finishing my PDSS Kennedy. Congrats again!

My daughter will probably not see my collection unless she comes by the yard sale when my wife parts with it.
when buying for album sets if I buy a slab or mint set I end up keeping it complete and hunting a raw coin to finish the album.

I think it's important to at least educate your favorite somebodies on your collection.
Even if they (your heirs or otherwise named) intend to part with your pride and joy shortly after your glorious shuffle off this mortal coil, it behooves us and them to get top dollar.
On the to-do list... write out ye olde will.
