Designed by Steve Hepburn, this coin presents a cross-country journey that ties together some of Canada's most iconic images—particularly those that have come to define the Canadian experience, and the landscape itself. The upper portion features that celebrated emblem of Canada's Pacific coast, the orca whale. The scene transitions smoothly to the northern coastline of the Canadian Arctic, which is represented by an inukshuk and a polar bear with cub. Beneath these are the majestic Rocky Mountains, which once made the land seem impenetrable to early European explorers. The peaks tower over the vast boreal forest on the left, which stretches across much of Canada, and the agricultural landscape of the Prairie provinces on the right, where a tractor is at work in a hay field. Atlantic Canada is represented by a Nova Scotian/New Brunswick Herring Seiner, which slightly overlaps the stirring image of a raised Canadian flag blowing in the wind. Finally, the nation's northern climate is represented by the heartwarming image of two youths playing Canada's beloved winter sport: hockey.
There you go... a coin with a lot of the 'elements' of Canada, and under $20. So, why could they not have put a face value of $20 instead of $3, and called this the next 20/4/20 coin? It would have made a great addition to the set.
It might be evidence of the RCM starting to step away from the $20-for-$20 program.
With this new approach, they can continue to sell a ¼ ounce silver coin for $20, but, by putting a $3.00 denomination on it, they will not have to assume the liability associated with having to buy back the $20-for-$20 coins that folks cash in at their local bank.

Very small canvas for all that art, kinda busy. No, finish is specimen, same as 20 for 20 - Reverse Proof. Same as SML, Maple Leaf 1/2 ounce Series, Zodiac 1/2 ounce. This is packaged in a Card, no clamshell, no mintage, until supplies last perhaps. A 1/4 ounce coin for $20, no matter how you slice it you pay the same as 20 for 20 without the ability to redeem. You could buy a full ounce SML in reverse proof for another $10.
Quote: But this is the same "concept" like $10for$40 and $20for$100
Doing the math, these are a deal from the mint, for the silver content. No other coins are offering 1 ounce of silver for under $100 - these ones are $80 - despite only $12 of face value (4 coins @ $3/ea)
Yes, you right, this seems to be same level product as 20for20. But how did Mint put so reach design on the 27mm coin?
Checked the mint page....no, this not for me. Coin on card - it could even doesn't have dedicated capsule. Kind of preudo-gift. But to give to someone CAD 3.00 face value gift?
