I think I may have a very high worth coin that I wont post pictures now but is a either a double die or a obviously miss striked coin around the edges that is a proof graded a perfect MS 70.

Before I post I want to get an idea on a trusted authority before I post a picture

Thanks

:)

I think it's pretty safe to post pictures of your coin here on the net. Crooks most likely would have a hard time tracking you down. Anyway, how will you know if it's a high value coin unless an expert or two have a peek at it.

There is a pretty big difference between the result of a doubled die and a miss strike. Are you thinking it is both at the same time?

Tell us what you are thinking? 1955 triple?

Also, it can't be a proof and rated MS at the same time.

If you post the serial number on the slab and company, we could look up and see what you have. If it is slabbed, you have it graded. So that has some authority unless it is not one of the big three graders.

Sort of hard suggesting a expert .. when we don't know what
you are talking about .. what type of coin.

Also .. what are you worried about?
Someone tracking you down .. ?
Someone telling you it is not something special?

My understanding is that Mr Fred Weinberg is one of the leading/bigger dealers in Coin Errors http://www.fredweinberg.com/)

Perhaps you want to reach out to him?
Rest in Peace

Why?

People here have posted discovery (first reported) varieties here before getting them listed and they got help from people here in getting it done.

Besides -- we have plenty of trusted authorities right here. I'm not an authority -- but more than one has already replied to your first post.

You may save some money by letting the experts here look at your coin to see if you really have something.

I mean, we don't need to see the TPG info. In any event, agree that Fred Weinberg has impeccable credentials.

to CCF.

I've never seen a Variety or Error Coin that was Certified a perfect 70, Mint State or Proof..

I agree with Fred Weinberg and have purchased a number of his errors from the early days of ebay..

In fact, Fred was the underbidder of my profile photo coin..

It is very important if you think you have a true mint error coin, whether it be a die or strike error, to have it examined by an expert, especially if it is a previously unknown error. That examination can be either in person or via high resolution, clear photos (like on his site). Even PCGS will not attribute and label your coin as an error unless it is a previously known or a newly discovered error as judged by a recognized expert.

I provide this example as a case in point; a 2009 Silver Proof Quarter that PCGS said was "struck as intended" (twice, they re-examined it after I complained that it was an error coin). See the arc going through the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA? It the result of a gross die error caused by a proof field polishing mistake that removed too much of the die in a crescent across the legend. After becoming totally disgruntled with PCGS (probably my fault as much as theirs), I sent the coin to Mike Diamond for an expert opinion. He not only correctly determined the nature of the error, he did a write-up of the coin (on page 74 of the February 14th, 2011 edition of Coin World). I have not yet resubmitted the coin for proper error attribution, but if I do I can include a copy of Mr. Diamond's fine article with it and be confident that it will be correctly labeled.

Jason, the experts here can give you a very good idea of what you have if you just post some images. They don't have to be as good as some of the ones you see here or on the PCGS website, they just to be clear enough for people here to see what you are talking about.

As become my habit, here is a pic of the setup I used to get those last images that I posted: A Canon T4i with a Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM lens, a 31mm FODSLR Red Metal Auto Focus Macro Extension Tube and a Neewer® NW-14EXT Macro TTL Ring Flash Light with LED AF assist lamp.
