Hello folks, Got this coin at an estate auction. Wasn't a bargain but I think I got it for a decent price. What do you think it would grade? Interesting note: The previous owner of this coin purchased it in 2004 for $115. Thanks, Joe2007

I could agree with EF-45, but I don't see it as cleaned.

Yes, XF45 and another nice coin! Would have it any day...Would like to see in hand to judge surfaces, but, likely market acceptable as orig.

XF45, but if that's a scratch reverse and not a die crack, I'd drop it to XF40 net. Does not APPEAR to be cleaned, but DOES appear to have been stored in such a way that it toned rather unevenly.

Solid XF40 with good eye appeal, I like it. $115 in 2004 sounds like under wholesale even then.

EF-45, too. On the cleaning issue, it looks as though somebody, anybody, in the past has thumb-rubbed some of the fields and maybe the shield on the reverse. That doesn't mean it has been cleaned, does it?
I mean, unless somebody pulled a coin out of circulation and "preserved" it in some kind of holder and then it's only handled by the rims from that point forward, people are going to thumb-rub it. I do it all the time with older circulation coins.
How many times does a coin come back with a details verdict because somebody thumb rubbed it a hundred years ago?
Ok, I'm done.
