I had a friend of the family hand me a stack of Canadian Tire and Atlantic Co-Op scrip. I could instantly smell the Yankee Candle all over it. They stack was kept in a draw with candles.

I found some good stuff in the stack but I hate the smell. I can't wash it so I need another way to kill the stench.

Since I am poor when I need to "wash" the one suit I own (it gets worn once every two years) I put it in the freezer. The cold kills the bacteria/ smell.

I am worried that since my candle smell is not a living thing the freezer may not work on it. The plan is to put the stuff in a burlap sack (so it can breath/ no dew) and see what it does.

Good idea? Any better ideas?

this thread might be of interest--different smell, but perhaps the same anti-stink methodology would work.

I'd be a little worried about the humidity level in the freezer.

Try putting the bills in a zip-lock bag with baking soda . shake it up ,let bills get covered good ,then store in Refrigerator up to a week . The baking soda should blow right off when done .
This is not a proven fact ,only MHO .

This is a new one for me. Since the candle smell is not the result of biological processes, cold should have no effect on it.

if you do try it, just watch out for freezer burn.

Maybe there are some better options here: https://www.nedcc.org/free-resource...k-nedcc/faqs

I think it's going to take some time no matter what method you choose. But since your notes smell of perfume, I think you need to look for odor-absorbing neutralizers.

Good luck -- and keep us posted on this.

I don't think there's any humidity in a freezer, is there?

Nope I don't think so, but I think that Buddy's point is still a good one since once the scrip came out of the freezer, you would need to worry about bringing it up to room temperature without the paper absorbing moisture from the ambient air being humid.

There's humidity in my freezer. Ice cubes....for one. Humidity enters every time it's opened.

I don't think it matters in this case however. If the odor on the notes is from scented candles, I don't freezing will change or neutralize the perfume.

Hmmm..... Okay, somebody has to spray some scent onto a piece of paper and freeze it.

How could you possibly control this? Letting it defrost in the fridge for a day? The only question is: does it work?

When I had a good jacket that had to be dry cleaned, and it got "smoked" (this was back in the days when people smoked in places like music clubs, etc.), I'd hang the jacket out on my patio for a couple hours to air out the smell, and it worked pretty well. Maybe something like that would work for you? You'd probably want to keep the scrip out of direct sunlight, and take measures to make sure it couldn't blow away, but otherwise...
