I have no idea what happened to this coin, or if it is a mint error or something else. Any help would be appreciated.

At first I was thinking broadstrike, but it looks more like PMD.

I can only guess that the cent was once part of a good luck charm or piece of jewelry. Some other part must have broken off. It's just a guess.

It's entirely possible that someone was messing with the coin trying to 'create' an error. But the indented edge makes me think it was in some sort of holder for awhile.

I agree with PSD. Damage is damage no matter how it was done. It wasn't struck that way.

I was thinking along the same lines.

It may have been previously encapsulated as some sort of token for an event in 1956 or 1958, but the token was struck off center.
Just a guess.
