Found this in the old collection I'm trying to rehab. Pretty sure it's a cracked planchet because they run across the rim. I just thought it was awesome to look at - almost alive as if it had veins running through it!

Improper alloying/annealing. Don't drop it...it might shatter!

Nice!

An anachronism.
First step backwards to being an ancient coin.

Doesn't look like a cracked planchet. I've seen coins that looked like that that were recovered from sewers.

It is not a cracked planchet or improper annealing, it is environmental damage.

Planchets do not crack and shatter like glass and improper annealing only affects the color of a coin, it does not produce cracks.

biokemist6, By environmental damage you mean chemical interactions along with temperatures that it was exposed to?

I can see how even natural seasonal temperature variations could cause an alloy to crack with uneven contraction and expansion. This is the only one of the batch like this that I've come across.

I really just meant under the conditions in which it was stored, perhaps decades of an attic with temps going from lows under 10° and highs over 130°.
