WooHoo... excited tonight because I completed all the halves in my type set with this purchase.

Went back to the bay today to pick up a raw barber half. I thought I was gambling much less on this one and felt I paid a fair price. Was looking in the XF-AU range and found this one. The listing didn't give a grade but I felt strongly that it was XF45. The band under liberty is fully visible in the obverse and all the feathers on the wings of the eagle in the reverse have uninterrupted lines to the tips. I also thought it had a nice look compared to the tons of problem coins on the bay. The coin was offered for $200 + $3 Shipping. I offered $150 including shipping and they accepted. The listing is here:

As always, I would appreciate your thoughts on grade and the price I paid. Thanks in advance.

One additional thought was that I saw some slabbed PCGS XF45s offered at $210-$275. I think that these were among the lowest price slabbed XF-45s online.

None of the ones I saw compared favorably to this one. Some were a little sharper, but always had some distracting issue that detracted from the overall presentation of the coin.

Lovely problem free never cleaned example. Strong 40 sniffing at 45.

Excellent selection at a very reasonable price.

Thanks Ray & Joe. Just noticed a distracting line that goes from about 12 o'clock in the coin's reverse, between the T and E of STATES, to the eye of the eagle. Didn't notice it until I held the picture at arm's length. Doesn't quite look like a scratch but I see a line. Also think I see what looks like an eyeball inside the eye of the eagle. It's saturday night but I assure you that I haven't been drinking.

Congrats on completing your Barber half set. I abandoned my attempt to fill out the set, less about 10 coins, some expensive coins in that set.

Haha... not going to attempt a barber half set. I just completed the half dollar section of my short type set. Not quite the same thing.
