Jack Payne is the name. I'm in my 50's, been collecting since I was 7. Mostly casually until about 3-4 years ago I really started looking, buying, trying to fill collections. Glad to be here, looks like a wealth of knowledge and information. Thanks!

Jack to CCF! I'm fairly new to all this and have learned quite a bit in only a couple months (coupled with my own desire for learning). Even without posting there are years-worth of reading and knowledge here. I hope you enjoy it!

, Jack. Your collecting history is about the same as mine. I started young but life got in the way of serious collections. Thanks to a chronic health condition, I'm retired early and have been hanging out with these fine folks for around six years, two-ish as a registered member. There simply is no better group of money-mongers on the internet. The collective knowledge of members of the CCF could fill a wing of the ANA library & the people are much nicer than a bunch of books.

Thanks everyone! My paternal grandfather showed me his small (I thought it was unbelievable!) collection when I was 7 in 1971-72. I was impressed enough that he started giving me a few coins at a time. An 1883 IH cent was the first. Then a plastic tube of 1935 and 1936 Buffalo nickels (well worn). Then a few random US coins in old manila paper Littleton envelopes (from the 60's I guess. Very cheap prices). The best one was an EF 1914 Barber quarter. I still have all those coins, along with a bunch of wheaties and some other odds and ends. I then took my small collection to my maternal grandmother's house to show her, and she responded by opening up her jewelry box and handing me a 1922 Peace dollar. As a 7 year-old, I thought it was the most awesome thing I had ever seen. She was born in 1922, and her mom (my great grandma), who was EXCEPTIONALLY POOR, saved it for her and gave it to her when she was a girl. She kept it all those years and then gave it to a 7-8 year old boy! Incredible! Anyway, I probably own 30-35 1922 Peace dollars now, but I still know which one my grandmother gave me, and will always keep it separate. She died in 1980 when I was 16 so it has always remained special to me. I love Peace dollars as well as Morgans. I also love all the Barbers. I also collect US currency, but nothing too crazy. I feel I have a lot of knowledge of US coins, but I'm sure not too much compared to many on here. Don't care too much about non-Us stuff, unless it is silver. I have some odds and ends.

Biedercoins, I hope your health stays on the up and up, and your coin collecting brings you years of enjoyment. I retired last year after 28 years as a police officer, but still have to work ($$$). Now I'm teaching high school...but that zaps my energy way more than police work did...lol. I have some health issues too, so we will see how long I can handle my second career!

Welcome Jack! I remember seeing my great grand fathers collection of silver dollars back in the early 70's, that he kept in a cigar box. It probably wasn't more than 30-40 total, mostly well circulated, but man it was the largest hoard I'd ever seen at the time. My grandmother and I would go through hundreds of rolls every Friday night, boy the memories & joy I had, I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. I've gone hot and cold through the years, whether it was chasing girls, no money, or just plain lack of interest, but I sill have the bug. I just posted my Christmas purchase for myself while visiting in my old hometown of Arlington, Texas.
