1564: 1 schilling from the Free City of Riga. The date started off being split between the castle, but that was switched in 1566, where the date switched sides.

Quote: Or just which types the regulars here collect? maybe from this moment on both collectors and regions the large silver pieces from the 1560's and older originate from the German taler tradition which was also followed in the Low Countries, the reason being that Charles V, elected emperor of the holy Roman Empire was also ruler in the A17 provinces of the Netherlands. His son Philip II introduced two very successful coins in terms of monetary policy the philipsdaalder, a one ounce heavy weight silver piece of those days the bourgundy crossdaalder, also taler size the philipsdaalder also had 1/2, 1/5, 1/10 and 1/20 silver pieces the bourgundy crossdaalder 1/2 and 1/4 pieces many of those survive today because of the turbulent days of the 80 years war in The Netherlands, with raids, sieges all the time in many places. So people tended to hide personal belongings in secret places, some of those were later recovered as hoards. the early days of the 80 years war, leading to the split of the 17 provinces => French Flanders versus Belgium versus The Netherlands is my area of interest

1563: 1 schilling from the Free City of Riga. And this was the first year these schillings were minted, meaning this will be my last coin from the Free City of Riga.

Here is a 3 Pfennig from the German City State of Branddenburg that is dated 1563 AD. I have it attributed as Barfeldt 405.
