Mostly type (I'm not interested in key dates at all, don't really see the point, but for some types I'm trying to get all the common dates), and mostly world (not limited to any specific country; in fact the only countries I won't collect are non-micronational fantasy issues - stuff like all those Islas Galapagos coins - and maybe some very rare ones for which it's a question of affordability). Not sure which choice is closer.
But really I collect everything that interests me at the moment (and that I can afford with my tiny budget). I have coins in all of those categories except novelty (unless the Canadian poppy quarters count) and maybe rare (can't really afford it), but I didn't have any bullion coins either until getting one as a gift yesterday.

I am mostly a world coin collector but tend to grab anything that catches my attention. I also have a collection of "animal/nature/science" themed coins that are fun to collect.

Every coin represents a place, a time & an amount of money that sometime, somewhere, was meaningful to someone. Perhaps it was part of their earnings, savings or a tithe or gift. Maybe they used your coin to buy food for their family. It could have changed hands through gambling or some dark nefarious purpose. Each coin has it's secrets...I collect them all.

I collect specific series of coins....and then, I collect all strikes, patterns, test tokens varieties and errors within that series. So far that includes one Newfoundland decimal series, two Canadian decimal series, Trade dollars, tokens and exonumia from Nova Scotia and a couple of series of Swedish coins I really like. Then, there are the thematic collections (Canada flag exonumia, Canadian coins, on coins exonumia)..... I must admit, it can be like a disease at times!!

I collect coins as an expression of art, and how they tangibly tie world history into a coherent story. I chose Ancients because they have been my primary fascination for over a year now. My particular focus is Roman coins for their history, and Indian coins for the fascinating cultural admixture.
In addition to my ancients, I have a nearly complete (missing several $500+) Japanese type set, half-baked attempts at British, Panama, and US Philippines type sets, and a random accumulation of US and world coins that suit my fancy.

Little bit of everything, but mostly US, modern, early American and colonial. Mint sets, silver dollars, the Morgan series, Peace dollars and modern small dollars. Also like Canadian, UK, British Empire, small collection of world coins. Raw coins, slabs and coin sets. More recently, an avid silver stacker, govt. rounds, generics, bars and constitutional.

I collect Classic US coins (Morgan dollars, Indian cents, Buffalo nickels and Mercury dimes). Mostly I try to get what are available here in local auctions. For Morgan dollars I have stepped into slabbed coin area and ordered coins from Germany and U.S. At this poins I am thinking of adding another slabbed coin project to my list. Maybe Peace dollars, Liberty walking 1/2$, Mercury dimes, Standing liberty quarters or earlier commemmoratives. So hard to decide but beaty of the coin design and affordability will be my deciding factors.
