what is the difference between these Trump dollars and the Norfed Liberty dollars ?
Making a list to try to keep a long story short, and using Bernie (as people call him) instead of Bernard von Nothaus b/c its shorter!
1. Bernie made NORFED (or Liberty dollar) coins from gold and silver as a substitute for fiat money the government issues.
2. This was a move encouraging the repeal of the Fed. Reserve act so we could get back onto PM based money, break the monopoly the Fed has (and their power to print money out of thin air), and so inflation etc.
3. Many have tried circulating their own money - many still do.
4. When Bernie's outfit got larger than anyone else's, the government took notice and were not happy.
5. The FBI performed seizure of Bernie's business and assets.
6. The FBI spread word through media that it might even be illegal to own Liberty Dollars, and even went so far as to tell
ebay they should not allow NORFED items to be sold through
ebay.com.
- side note -
ebay went from approximately 3-4 new pages of auctions per day to around only 10 new individual auctions daily, but the auctions never completely stopped. Every day I had an
ebay search keeping an eye on this, and every day there were new listings.
7. The court case - read the manuscript - was ridiculously one sided with some slanted "evidence" like showing a en enlarged
Mercury dime pic next to a pic of a 1 oz. NORFED dollar (making them appear to be the same size) to convince the jury NORFEDs could be mistaken for
US coins.
8. Bernie was convicted of counterfeiting, but not sentenced. He holds the record for the longest conviction in the state of NC with no sentencing.
- the fact is they knew they did not have real ground to stand on - which is why the courts never moved beyond this point.
9. It turned out in the end, as suspected by those who followed the case, that the FBI, like other government agencies have been proven do have done during this administration, was abusing powers. Their goal worked - they scared people off from the only private currency which has made any real foothold.
- BTW - the town of Chambersburg, PA in which I lived used to accept these about as freely as government money (also his silver certificates).
10. The FBI is returning everything they took to Bernie in the illegal raid - said to be unprecedented in that the FBI is actually returning the pile of exact silver rounds they took.
This info is from Bernie's email newsletters with links to news articles, websites, court case documents, etc. which have documented the ongoing process.
I get upset when I see the American government using illegal abuse of power like this.
BTW - during the FBI said they had made a mistake (I don't think there was an apology? - have to look it up), the interesting thing is that Bernie sold the rights to his design to another firm that used it to mint the same effigy on their own silver rounds and these were readily sold on
ebay.
Why did the FBI not go after the new maker of these?
1. The new maker looked at the specifics the court case accused Bernie on about NORFED dollar and, although using the same effigy, changed the words on their rounds. They also changed the REV design, but Bernie had been doing this anyway.
2. The new Liberty dollars never had the following of the old ones - likely from the scare tactics. I have even recently run into someone asking why these illegal items are being sold on
ebay.
Yes... my avatar is a NORFED gold coin - its a beauty and one of my favorite "coins." Lousy pics though - sorry!
