An interesting variety rarely heard about.

NFLD-1941-5-Cents-Near-And-Far-1

Easy to pick out with loupe using the T of cents as a base line.

That's not the "nearest 1" nor the "farthest 1"

or rather, "narrow date" vs "wide date"

Just sayin ;)

I have what looks to be a wide date,
like the one on the left above.

There was a really good Newfoundland varieties CD that was put out by a fellow member about 2 years ago... the number of varieties in this series is mind boggling..

Found this one in my collection. Which is the harder to find wide or narrow? Of the 4 I could find 3 are narrow and 1 wide

the narrowest date is the most difficult...then the widest...neither of those have been posted here...

i would post pics but then I'd be revealing too much from my upcoming book ;)

One of my favourites from this series is the 5 dot from 1943... Mike sent you a friend request to show you some of the ones I've picked up so far on FB

Mike, information from the internet is fair game, but as long as the sources are properly acknowledged. If I could not use the internet as an information source, I would be struggling with my CN Journal variety column.

Nothing against CV or SPP (haven't seen anything from CV and SPP does footnote rigorously), but many who publish information or photos gleaned from the internet feel no obligation to acknowledge the source. IMO cases of plagiarism, often from internet sources, abound in numismatic writings.

nickelsguy...that's a very nasty post from you...

I just told you what you posted is completely wrong. Your pics do not show a Near 1 nor a far 1...

you simply posted two NF 5c 1941 coins with date spacings that are somewhere in between.

Here is an example of a true near 1, notice how the 1 in 1941 falls directly under the T (yours doesn't):

Perhaps you should educate yourself better before making foolish accusations. No one is stealing your incorrect information.

Hey, that ebay link is from an active CCF member... I bet he wishes this thread had been active prior to his ebay listing...
